Hello.
With this new year come new projects. I like T series tanks with ERA and when I came across a DML T-72 w/ ERA , I couldn't pass it up. Price was pretty good too. I know it isn't the best kit but so far it doesn't look to bad, compared to my Hobby Craft T-72. What are you guys' opinions on the DML offering? What are some tweaks you guys would recommend?
I'll be using http://dishmodels.ru/wshow.htm?p=1660 as reference and try and touch it up with things like wiring/ fuel lines, etc. Get into doing finer details on a cheap kit and see if I can make this kit look some what better.
One of my more specific questions is what are the ERA tiles bolted on? Is there some structure under neath or just some supports welded onto the turret?
Thanks

Me too I have that kit, but according to several reliable opinions which I've read here on Armorama, kit is too old and unfortunately , although it has some nice details, has huge dimensional inaccuracies. Kit was designed by DML when iron curtain was still there, so the references used for its development were only some pics
Personally I think I'll use to build a Brem t-72, and I'm still waiting for a new T-72 tool made by trumpeter or zvezda
Anyway, here you can find information useful to improve your kit
https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/173310&ord=&page=1
Regarding the active armour if you look here you can understand how they are held to the hull.Actually they are bolted to several cylindrical supports
If you need a closer view of era bricks look here

I have quite a lot of reference about the t-72. Anything you need, let me know
Cheers and good luck

Thanks!
I did some searching and read through that thread. While it may be old and inaccurate, I think it can be made to look decent. Won't hurt to try. Gives me something to do until I get my T-90 in. I too await a new tool T-72, among other soviet armor subjects that could use new tooling.
On another note. Do you know of any camo schemes other than the standard green? I think I saw a tri color of Green, Sand, and black.

Look at the way the bricks are folded, these should be made out of PE

Miniarms resin bricks are perfectly adequate. In fact the Voyager etch bricks are difficult to fold correctly and offer very little refinement over the resin offering, except perhaps for the base plates. Now the kit era bricks, well thats a different matter.....they are horrendous!

...yes...Unfortunately i have to agree
In my opinion PE era bricks are more realistic but far more difficult to assemble, resin parts are maybe a little bit less convincing but incredibly easier
Anyway here you are a gallery about a t-72 Revell improved by an italian modeller (unfortunately he isn't me )

Thanks a lot! The Italian build thread was very helpful, though I could only understand bits in pieces as my only other language is spanish. I'll go over it in more detail with a translator later.
The link to the ERA was pretty helpful too. So the ERA on the side skirts are on an actual frame with supports to the lower hull. This is something I'll have to build. I think I have an idea of what I need to do now. As for the ERA bricks, I haven't decided yet.
The last thing I'm still curious about is the wiring to the smoke grenade launchers. Haven't seen any real clear pictures of where exactly they connect too. I think each launch tube has wiring running from it to the on next to it and so on?
Thanks, you've been a real big help.

The frame work shown on one of those links is I believe a newer innovation. Most of the pictures I have seen of T-72B's don't have this sophisticated frame work fitted. Instead it seems the ERA bricks are bolted onto a very rudimentary frame attached straight onto the rubber skirts. I'll see if I can find a picture, but frankly I wouldn't bother, its easier just to stick the blocks straight onto the skirts (the frame isn't visible tbh)
regarding the Tucha wiring, i'll see if I can find a picture on my hard drive!

Well I think that following the pics could be enough
Regarding the frame, I think you meant this one:

But as Rob exactly told you, you should follow these pics
