Hi to everyone..

It is well-known oldie but not goldie Dragon BMP-2 kit. As there are accuracy problems with the kit, I wanted to correct them as much as I can. I used detail set from Eduard, smoke launchers and antennas from Voyager, Gun barrel from RB model and finally tracks and wheels from Master club...

If you want to see more photos from building steps you can check my blog.. plastic-in-scale.blogspot.com

Hi,
It looks simply fantstic. I'm building an BMP-2 by myself for the afghansitan campaign and this one gives reallly a lot of inspiration. On your blog you wrote that if anyone has additional knowlage: say it now before it's too late. So I will try. It seems to my that your BMP-2 has the supernumery firing port on the right side of the hull. The orignal doesn't have it.
And one last thing; you wrote ready for painting but what color and nationality will your BMP be?
I'm looking forward to an execellent model.

Great job. You are making a real gem out of the old Dragon kit which is originally full off inaccuracies... I hope there will be some figures to populate this beauty? There are many Evolution, MasterClub, Battalion Models figures to choose from.

Thank you for your nice comments.

Joachen, after I read your warning, I checked again number of ports. Yes, you are correct. On the right, there are 3 ports. I was following Eduard's guide. Next time I will be more carefull while following instructions. I will remove that port before painting. Thanks again. Nationatily of the vehicle will be Russian.

Mario, it took many time to fix unaccuracy of the model. For me finally result of building steps is very satisfactory. It worth the time.. I was checking figures as you mentioned. To be honest Im not good at painting figures..I dont want to put a mutant next to this beauty.. But who knows maybe I give a try..

Please, give them a try... I think figures add a "human touch" to vehicles. Tank from Russia also has some really nice crew sets. If you need help with figures, just shout... we have some really good figure painters here that can help you out in the process.

Looking good! What kind of a paint scheme is that, Russian?

I think I see some very subtle postshading effects. Looking forward to seeing it completely weathered.

Strange colors came out. Those colors that have turned out at your BMP, do not look like on real BMP. Green has turned you into green tint, not like, must to be closer to the olive drab. Yellow is also the wrong color, have more sand in the shade, you have turned in a lemon.

I like it but if you want to repruduce this specific bmp-2 i have to say the colors don#t really matche the original. Especially the sand yellow.

The painting job looks really great, but what camo did you want to depict?

If your goal was to reproduce the yellow-black-dark green scheme, Unfortunately I have to agree with Olegas...

Is a pity indeed anyway because, as I told the painting job is very good...However you might fix it. You could overspary the yellow stains with a sand color and you could do a dark washing on the green parts...it may work!

cheers

Sorry Euan but in my humble opinion it wouldn't make sense doing such a great job to have a correct BMP-2, and then painting the model with an invented camo scheme...It would be a pity indeed!

The color palette and the scheme of camouflage spots corresponds here to this BMP.

I think your looking good tbh,

Washes will darken it down, you can pull the Green back towards a dark olive drab if you want with oils, and the yellow/sand stripes can be pulled back to a lighter sand with dry brushing.

As a base to work from I think it's bloody damn good tbh.

Dry brushing will work fantastic on this little subject, don't be tempted to just cover it with pastels, that will just kill it, suck all the life out.

Well, in this case.... it matches perfectly!

Sancar I assume that it was the camo that you've tried to depict...so, great job!

Anatolii, do you have any further details about that scheme?

It looks like a Spring temporary camo

Thanks for comments..

When I was begining to paint, it was a bit confusing for me which colors to chose for the camouflage. I could get the green from dark green / olive drab combination but it was really a problem to choose which sandy/yellowish color to choose..

I searched sady/yellowish color possibilities from other vehicles camouflages. When I read your comment, I noticed none of you asked me which colors I used or which kind illumitaion I have for taking photos...

You judged the colors and executed...

The wheathered model would be definetley darker then first painting. Considering this, I used darker green tones ( dark to light) as base color.. Maybe I should have added a bit olive drab. It is easy to fix. I just add olive drab and repaint it.

I see most of you not agree about the sand/yellow color. Here are examples for you...

After all these possibilites, considering the real vehicle photo, I agained used a color close to sand but added just a bit yellow. Because the color is yellowish. Like in the example Anatolii showed. (Thanks Anatolii). If you still say me sandy color... I will not say you anything. Im not an expert but that color is definetly yellowish..

Shortly, think again your sandy color, lemon or whatever. You may like the lemon but I dont..especially on military stuff...

Matt, I will do wheatehering in my own way. Not so old looking but just dirty enough.. Maybe I squeeze lemon on it as wheathering..

As last thing. Dont say it is pitty..Because its not...

This is the most diffused camo scheme :

https://www.dropbox.com/s/tqmxiymvginf6jn/159882248.jpg

In my opinion it's not a matter of weathering or quality of the pic ...they look like different schemes

Look also this pic

I might be wrong but it seems to me that yellow and green on the BMP, look quite different from the colors on the tanks on the background.

I said that it were a pity IF your colors would be wrong...but if you have photographic evidence, it'll be a GREAT painting job

cheers and congrats

I have also this....

Once again..I dont claim colors are best fit to real vehicle..but at least it is close...Each color changes after wheathering..

Mauro, I also liked the camo you showed in the link. If a new BMP-2 comes from any modelling brand, it would be pleasure to paint in same style..
