Terry, that looks to be coming along nicely!
I went through both of those kits I just bought and found that the PTO must be one of the earlier kits as it only has one lower turret ring Not to worry though as I have the T-28 kit and it has two. I also took out all the extra parts from both kits so I have more options for my current builds here is a pic of the extras minus some road wheels(have not decided which ones too use with the kit yet) and one turret.
I also came across a web site that I am surprised I had not found or heard of before, so am posting a link in case I`m not the only one.

I finally got around to working on the front fenders for Hony Tonk. I decided to use the kit fenders. I modified the transmission cover so the fender would fit, removed the curved brass part from the fender, and scratched a replacement part for the area between the fender and transmission cover. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.

The DML Sherman turrets always present a challenge on what to do about the seam between the top and bottom parts at the turret bustle. For this one I sanded the seam smooth, used Archer's dry transfer welds to replicate the weld visible on these turrets, and then repaired the damage casting texture with Mr. Surfacer.
I'd like to add casting numbers to the sides of the turret using Archer's casting set. Anyone have any idea what the correct numbers would be on Hony Tonk?

Yep, you're right. I meant to mention that while typing but dinner was ready and so it left my train of thought. I was going to mention it's a cast line... not a weld line but since you broke the ice, there it is.
Several pictures of how it should look.

Thanks guys. I guess I knew that, err maybe not. In any case I'll sand the weld I put on down to make it more subtle.

I'm a frequent visitor to that Sherman site. I just assumed that if I found it, everyone interested in Sherman's has too. Thanks for sharing with those that haven't found it as yet.

Guy, nice job on the fenders. Like you, I use sheet plastic rather then the PE parts for the braces that always ends up being a nightmare.

Quick update. The dozer assembly has been attached to the Sherman. The kit instructions were a bit vague but it wasn't too hard to figure out. I did have to trim down the dover arms so they would clear the drive sprockets and track.
I'll probably start weathering ans such on it in the next few days. This is to represent a post war Sherman being pressed into a reconstruction role, clearing roads. I'll cover the main gun and coaxial. I may just leave off the hull MG. I probably willleave off the 50cal as well. The longterm plan is to eventually have this vehicle in the act of clearing a street of rubble while people are milling around and such. I plan on including a Studebaker dump truck in as well.
Alex, the dozer is looking sweet. Sherman dozers are just cool period.
Terry, WOW! that is some amazing detail work, you have clearly mastered PE. What is your secret? aside from shrinking yourself and your tools to get this stuff done, what is the best piece of advice you can offer in regards to improving PE skills?

Guy,
Great job on the mud guards! Honky Tonk is looking real nice. I have one suggestion, the bullet splash in front of the tranny cover bolt strip was not there on these early tanks. Shouldn't be too hard to remove with a small blade.

Junk pile is on the fritz for now, I'm having a difficult time with the radial and the engine compartment. In the meantime I've started playing around with this old kit. It was between this one and an even older M4A4 (6035) that I was going to use for the Jurrasic Plastic Campaign. I ended up using the A4 for that camaign primarily because it is a year older (1995 vs 1996) but also because I felt like converting this one into a regular M4 composite. The last couple of days I've spent a little bit of time on this one.
The Turret is really bad on this kit, I apparently got the reissue without the second HB turret. I spent a couple of hours just getting that silly bulge in the back sanded down properly so that the turret will actually rotate and lock properly into place, then there was the missing cast in cheek armor which was no big deal. I also removed the extra detail on the turret roof and the loaders hatch. The pistol port had to go too. These turrets are badly mishappen and even the gun sits too high in the front face of the but I just decided enough was enough and I'll live with it like this.

Also spent some time correcting the ridiculous cast texture that came on this kit hull front, upper rear, and the tranny cover. the fit on the tranny cover required some tweaking to get aligned properly, but at least these old kits have a late sharp nose tranny cover that looks the part unlike the more recent releases of the PTO hybrid and both firefly IC kits. The sides of the hull also had an extra edge on them that probably was meant to simulate the sand shield brackets. I got rid of those and will now try to scratch the brackets and the mounts for the mud guards.
I also cut and pasted some back faces for the idlers which were missing the rear detail.

Another update for ya'll!
I decided I didn't like the molded on handles on the boom so replaced them with brass. Had an extra set of AFV Club indy link track laying around so I decided to use them on this one. The seam on the end connectors of the kit tracks was pretty obvious, but then again so were the ejection marks all over the indy links! Prepping them turned into a 3 night ordeal, but I'm pleased with how they turned out. Then a few more details and I was ready to compress some air and propel some pigment! Base coat of Vallejo OD primer. Never used primer before, but learned my lesson on my M-16 that it takes a lot of coats of regular paint to cover a lot of brass. This is actually a decent approximation of OD in my opinion, but a little on the green side...I'll take care of that next installment. Thanks for looking!

Rob, thanks for the info, I don't plan to buy the T-28 but its always good to know where to find stuff if I really need it. It never really occurred to me that the t28 would be loaded with sherman stuff but it did use sherman suspension components, hatches etc...
The turret rings you mentioned, are they for the high bussel or the low bussel?

Terry, super job! The OD looks good and faded to me. The two rear lift rings are they missing because they anchor cables or something? Did you make the tracks movable or are they glued in sections?

Hi Pedro!
Yes, the two rear lift rings hold cables, so they will be added soon. Have to put decals on before I can attach the boom, which will dictate the cable positioning.
The tracks are tacked together with Tamiya thin, so they are still flexible, though not totaly moveable. I did the top and bottom runs, then estimated the drive/idler sections, they will need to be adjusted for correct tension, the Tasca idlers are also adjustable for tension, so hopefully they will end up nice and tight!
Thanks!
Terry

Terry, your build just continues to amaze me. Your PE work seems so natural and easy for you. I struggle with that stuff to the point of frustration.
With the coat of primer on, everything just comes together. Well done friend. Looking forward to your next update.
