I have some new inspiration, for my KT. It didn't occur to me that I could do it as it appeared on the Eastern Front(i.e. a white-wash). Expect updates, soon.
Great work everyone!

Thought I would post a couple of photos of the two figures that are nearly finished. The oil paint is still wet so the figures are reflecting light and look a bit garish. After the oil is dry I'll complete the detail painting of the uniforms, do a tiny bit of weathering and spray them with a dull coat and they will be done. Only six more to go!==)

AFV Club never met a 1-2 part subassembly they couldn't double the parts count for.
That gun crutch, 6 parts! Left and right braces against the shield, crutch piece, wheel and a microscopic hook underneath... my aching eyes!
Now in the picture, I see the flash in those pincers inside the crutch. See below for general observations on cleanup.
lets not even get into these bad boys.. there have to be 30 parts in each.. we are done here except for the range stakes which will need seperate painting and adding to the arms just before weathering.
I do really appreciate the fidelity of detail and the instructions are better than the low end DML ones (not even close to Tamiya though) they do take some careful monitoring. That trunion piece gets flipped over a couple of times in the process and unlike Tamiya parts CAN go on the wrong side.
Some of the Tamiya-esque exploded view "this goes here, dont screw it up" warnings would be helpful.
Overall construction is more fiddly than even a DML gun kit and the mold seams are present on almost every part, even the tiniest. I've got to get the fiberglass brush out and clean up the excess glue and seam scrapings before priming.
Still have not tackled the shield to gun step... wish me luck.
Luck, steady hands, and a cold beer afterwards.

Mike: Nice catch on the figure, I got it corrected. Your build is progressing nicely.
Ronnie: I don't see why you would have to withdraw from the group build; and I don't think anyone will think so either. Nice start on your Tiger I, do you have any special plans on displaying it?
My build is approaching completion. The figures are finished and I made some photos of some of them which are below. Figures aren't my strong suit, but these turned out functional at least. I wanted to decal the ammo, but the decals broke apart a few seconds after I dipped them in the water.
With luck, this project might be finished by Sunday.

For what it is worth, Archer makes some AWESOME 88 Ammo stencil decals, recently released that lie flat, snug into the details and look amazing in place.
They're worth the few bucks they cost and really up the level of the presentation of the finished product.
Keep up the good works..
Mike
ps, nice nipples...

Well guys, my build is a wrap. The diorama is set during Operation Battleaxe which occurred in June 1941. Several times during the battle 88's engage British armor from hasty positions and the is what I tried to show. Overall I am satisfied with the build, but there are several areas that could be improved. I had a nice relaxing time building the kit(s) and have greatly enjoyed this group build. If anyone sees something you think I could have done better on feel free to fire away and let me know.
Enjoy the photos,
Ernest

Ernest: Great job! The figures seem to be exactly where they should and doing what they should. What did you use for brass? Or are the rounds turned?

Thanks for the kind words Matt! Believe it or not I spent a lot of time positioning the figures; it turned out to be much harder to get the right look than I thought it would. The rounds are brass and turned metal; I brought them from a Polish firm called RB Productions. The quality is excellent and the price was very good.

Ernest great job with the dio i really like the weathering on the whole project
Ok I was going to build the old Tamiya 88 kit but then I realized that we could build Tigers Love those Tigers and I have been wanting to build this 1 since I got it
It will be OOB but there is a lot of real cool extras in the box
I am sorta of in a campaign backlog right now but I hope to get started on this 1 by the end of the week so I took the picture last night

Quoted TextSal, you needed an excuse to build that awesome Tiger ..
Yes John it is an awesome kit but no metal barrel
Well here is the 1st 3 steps road wheels are dry fit
and up to step 6 with some PE in the mix
Another busy week so wont be much progress until Friday
Sal, having build a Dragon Tiger for another Campaign last year, I can't say it's a slow build, the instructions aren't easy and you can easily forget some parts, miss a few details, don't rush it ... it's a Zen build
Even being a Smart Kit, they should add a Metal barrel... AFV Club have.

Can I enter a paper panzer, with an 88 as well? I did all of the work, on the hull last week. I have the gun assembled. I have yet to add the running gear and tracks, as well as finish painting and weathering. I can post photos of the progress, so far.

Yes the instructions are very busy so slow it is but I haven't run into any of the typical Dragon problems with the instructions
Yes a metal barrel would have been great instead of this one made up of 16 pieces, the Heart of the 88 Campaign

Good Question Matt, I am starting a VK4502(P) with an 88mm. Is that OK for the campaign?

Wow.. that was fast Sal !!!!
You must change your callsign to "TurboCharged"
It would be easier to get the wheels out and paint them and then put them back.
What colour did you use for the basecoat ?
it looks very light, but it can be the flash.
