long-waited and long-ignored T-80 family. I thought Trumpeter would release them after T-64s, but they are late

Good lord, I just realized something. My display of all the current main battle tanks in the early 2000's will be complete when this kit comes out. I've been ladying about the lack of a T-80U in plastic for a decade, what will I whine about now?!

Oh wait, I still want a Black Prince, ARL 44 and IS-6 so I'm still all set for whining. Whew!

Wow, we pulled in both Mig AND George! This kit has really shaken the trees!

Mig, do you have a picture of the turret top? That front insert area is bugging me. (and after all these years of telling people not to sweat the small stuff, I get hung up on that. *facepalm* )

Otherwise, this kit looks amazing. Get me a T-80B and we are SET!

(Once this is out and looked over, I will do everything in my power to get Sergej to do a "Black Eagle" turret for it! )

Jacques,
It was also bothering me. It seems it depends on the production of T-80U. Look at the two pictures

Look at the welding on the light support on this T-80UM1 Bars (that is closer to the kit's T-80U)

(for discussion purposes only taken from dishmodels. ru)

In this T-80UD it seems almost recessed.

(for discussion purposes only tanken from btvt.narod.ru)

This is going to be a difficult to solve.

Finally a plastic T-80 that actually looks up to date in terms of fineness. It being plastic, I hope it will be reasonably priced. Trumpeter have been beat to it.
Cant wait, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the informations MIG

The T80U is my most waited kit (with Merkava2D) i really hopes that this one will have accurate basics dimensions (gun, hull, turret)!

Now SP design will have to rebuild the T80UM1 conversion

As long as it has the correct shape and dimensions, I'm in. Judging from the OP, I hope that the details being based on factory drawings (where did they come from?) were correct and we get what many of us have wanted in plastic for some time. I also hope that Big Trumpy or others do not delay or otherwise un-ass their projects because someone might be beat them too it.

Complexity in plastic is no trouble for 95% posting here and hopefully future kits will have the needed "correct" detail that we strive for. That's not saying this one will not, but I'm not looking for a 1/35 scale kit with 1/72 scale ease of assembly.

Ooh, you mixed apples and oranges there. Maroon colored one is post 1991 production converted to T-80UM and the other is not T-80UD, it's one off variation of Object 219 with heavy armament option.

Well guys, according to these few pics, this new kit seems good indeed, but we don't have any sprues laying on our workbenches yet. As you know, in this "race" the winner isn't the fastest company. Winner will be the one which makes the best model.

"Competition" is bliss

Excellent News apart from the drop everything and drag the SP Designs T 80U(M) Kit and get it done before this one hits the shelves and I grow lazy. If the last year is any thing to go by the following years in this great hobby look to be great with so many subjects and manufacturers willing to have a go at anything
realy leaves me wondering what next and when.

Cheers Ben.

I'll be interested in seeing how much of my SP Designs T-80UD kit can be used to convert one of these to the -UD I want? Should be fun!

HAPPY MODELING

People were happy for almost 57 minutes, an increase of almost 47.89% over the happiness duration of the Zvezda T-90 and a whopping 112.42% increase over the dragon T28! Geeze, what more do you want?

For Sergej and I, we are both VERY happy about this. It is much easier, and better for sales, to do smaller updates and conversions of a good base kit than to basically redo a entire kit or make a full resin one. I am also certain that the basic pieces of this kit will be good. If any details are off, it will be for some sub-variant Object project!

That said, I think I will be buying a dozen or so to start with! (Well, so long as they are not $100 a pop...)
