I've found 3 closer pics of this tank
As you can notice, one of the MGs is a colt Browning....That it could mean that the tank actually belonged to the Croat army....That's a mistery indeed!
Update
I'm sorry! I haven't noticed the comment and its link!
So that's a Croat exemplar. Anyway it's interesting to notice that all the exemplars in the pics have the cross painted on their turrets, so that it was likely to be a unit insignia, not a personal one
Thanks a million for the info Marko!...

Some info:
That T-55 was part of JNA(Jugoslavenska Narodna Armija) or on english: Yugoslav People's Army
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yugoslav_People%27s_Army
It was stationed in military base(major base of JNA for tanks & artillery with big exercise ground in that part of country-Croatia) in city Bjelovar. When this military base fallen to Croats some of T-55 were sent to help defend surrounding area around city's of Zadar, Sinj, Drniš, Šibenik, Vodice.
That T-55 was belonging to 4th Guards Brigade, also known as "The Spiders"(Pauci)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4th_Guards_Brigade_(Croatia)
Urban legend: some say that enemy forces were reporting that Croats have a Leopard MBT, I guess mainly because strange look of that tank and markings off "iron cross" on gun turret.

Thanks a million Marko, now we have all the information about.
Just some other things if you don't mind
Was the black cross the only symbol painted on the vehicles?
Was there a sort of numeration painted on them?
Were these camo schemes original or Croatian unit made some field modification?
Here you can find the official site of 4th brigade
http://www.4brigada-zng.hr/
Above of the home page you can find a sort of book with lots of interesting pics
Yes, so do I. The cross looks very close to the modern German insigna

Marko, thanks for the info, it's wonderful. Do you happen to know how they attached the armor to the turrets? I'm thinking they maybe added rails to the turret or used the ones already there?
Mauro, I'm not sure how accurate this is but I have the Balkan T-55 decal set, and markings for one of these tanks. It gives you the option to add a black 26, but like I said I'm not sure if it's 100% accurate.

There is little info on that T-55. Before war all off JNA tanks were painted overall green, something like russian green. When war started Croats improvised cammo schemes on the tanks that they have captured. I think that "iron cross" on that T-55 was literally like that so enemy can really think that Croats got some Leopard MBT from Germany. Some say that this cammo scheme was offical for 4th Brigade from 1993.

Sorry to bring this thread back, but I was wondering if anyone might know how the rubber armor was attached, especially to the turret. I'm think maybe to the handles along the turret, but at the same time I don't think they're big enough to attach the armor. Thanks for any ideas/help.
