OK! Looks like the current rocket-head count is up to five!

Come on in, guys! I can already smell smoke and there's still over 7 months to go before anyone gets to actually light fuses and launch anything!

Bob, How about a 7.5cm Leichtgeschutz 40? That's the recoilless weapon I'm looking at. I think it's pushing things too much but I figured I'd ask since I'm going through the German Equipment Spares Box. I picked this kit up for the figures and haven't ever really decided on something to do with the guns.

Alex, the 7.5cm Leichtgeschutz 40 used conventional explosive charges. Or at least that's what Wiki says. It is a really cool looking weapon though.

Christopher, Okay. I didn't know it had the explosive charge. I thought it was a quick burn engine with a shaped charge. I didn't know they had a wiki article on it.

So Bob, never mind on that one. I'll file that one away for something else. Maybe mount it on a late Hanomag.

Alex; Both the 7.5cm and 10.5cm Leichtegeschutz were true recoilless howitzers - and very very cool little guns, IMHO! I bet you have that Dragon kit with the Fallschirmjager... that's the one I have, at any rate! Too bad I didn't know YOU were looking for those figs - I bought mine mostly for the guns!

On a historical note; the LeG served and apparently did OK, too. Somewhat expensive to make and short-ranged, and needing a special cartridge, but it did provide mobile fire-power for light troops - perhaps like the US 75mm pack howitzer did. Unlike that pack howitzer, however, the Leichtegeschutz had a ferocious back-blast, rather like a Panzerfaust on steroids! I'm sure that "situational awareness" counted in spades for LeG gunners! Mounting one on any sort of vehicle would seem extremely dangerous. Probably why no apparent records seem to exist showing any such mounts!

It was in most ways a conventional gun, so, sorry to have to say; no, it doesn't count, here :-

But it DOES provoke a thought about some future campaign aimed at tiny artillery pieces - sort of the opposite from Christopher's ambitions for Big Guns!

@SGTJKJ and Dragon164;

Welcome in, Gents! Glad to see more rocket-heads getting out and about; looks like we are up to 7!

I look forward with great anticipation to see whatever it is you decide on! Get thinking about what you want to launch - 7 months can pass by much faster then one thinks!

Bob, Yep I got the one with the Fallschirmjagers. I picked it up to use some of them to crew an anti-tank gun. Now that I look at the box art the rifled barrel should have told me not to even ask. I didn't know about the backblast so asking helped with hat. They are neat looking pieces so I'll find a use for them at some point. Maybe mount one of them on a light tank hull, like a Panzer 1 or 2. Maybe use the other in an urban ambush role.

Anyway, still playing around with some ideas. Look at it as me thinking out loud. I could see me doing a couple of small pieces for this one.

According to the Wiki the Leichtgeschutz was fairly deadly, though early models only lasted for about three hundred shots because when the weapon fired, it created huge amounts of torque on a bracket somewhere. It was fixed by welding lines against the rifle groves.

Bob, would a V2 work? Just curious. Really like the idea of a Tiger or E-100 mounted V2!

Chris;

I can imagine that the torque could be fairly heavy and the mount was rather light-weight... Of course, nobody probably expected anything like many hundreds of rounds to be fired in any engagement - this thing was certainly not intended as a position-gun nor for prolonged siege bombardments.

V-2 is a rocket and a weapon and WWII. ALL GOOD! While mounting one on a big panzer sounds, well, pretty cool... it also sounds mondo What-If, to me! I would welcome a "straight" V-2 into this fray ...

I'm just toying with the idea. Figured I'd ask as it's a solo rocket, not some sort of munition. Sticking with the Nebelwerfer for now. Currently thinking of having something like troops passing by the Neberlwerfer on the way to the front, or back from the front.

Just got back from my local hobby shop! Picked up a Esci (for five bucks no less!) kit with six Green Devils (SS). Got a 'faust, 'schreck and a couple mines. Surprisingly well detailed considering the kits at least twenty years old. Now I just need my Nebelwerfer and I'm all set.

Add me to the list as I have a Natter that needs building and with the tower it should be an interesting build.

@Cal-Greg and Darren;

OK, Gents! You are ON! Welcome in. Now let's see... doing a quick tally, looks to me like I have only one finger left to do the typing, what with all the folks indicating interest!

A Natter... Awesome! I mean Heavy, as in Mondo COOL! Of course lots of these failed efforts look cool from a safe distance I wonder if the one bloke who ever tried to fly one went to his final flight fully-loaded... certainly a brave-but-foolish man was he to light those fires and kick those tires! Oops! I think Natter didn't have any tires! OK, so let's stick with fires...

I really look forward to seeing it come along!

Bob, so you think riding a high-explosive rocket into something solid at high speed is a BAD idea?

You probably know all this, but... folks who think "speed kills" have it all wrong! SPEED isn't deadly, it's FUN. It's the sudden stop at the end that cases all the problems...

Welcome in! Bring that beast on

I think, Sal, that you make us a tenner who seem to have stepped up to do some sort of rocketry stuff.

So... is it going to get some interior? Does the Italeri version come with zimm already on, or ...? I have the Tamiya item - looks mighty nice in the box but needs a zimm job to become right.

Sal & Bob,

I have the Testor's Strummorser kit, which is a rebox of the Italeri kit. It does include molded zimm and a decent interior. It is currently sitting on the shelf partially assembled, but it had been a fun build.

Nate;

Ah ha! Now you mention it, I have read and seen elsewhere that the Italeri thing does come with some interior! Thanks for the reminder... OK, be warned. THIS is what happens when you get older and your life-time glue-and-solvent exposure is building!

So, why did you put it aside???

AFV Club has a separate interior, though it's missing the engine for some stupid reason.
