very nice... qq on the running gear - what have you masked it with? need to do that on my Pz1a, was going to use just straight masking tape but find that too sticky (do de-sticky it before but still...)

Hello Robert, I use Glad brand Press'n Seal to mask the tracks.

http://www.groceries-express.com/WebPages/1258770441%20Glad.html

Man, thats good stuff! I still seal the edges of the wrap with Tamiya tape but i save from having to use up my tape.

Preshade and Basecoat on! Ill paint the tools, cables, etc. with Vallejo Model Color.

More soon!

Gary, just saw your build thread. Easy to follow, and it's looking real good to date.

Always glad to pick up some solid tips. Using Tacky glue on the drive gears is an concept I haven't used it for yet. I do use it to assemble link type tracks so I can have some flexibility. Also the Glad Press & Seal is a completely new concept to me. Going to get some and try it out.

cheers Gary - that Tiger is looking nice (stupid thing to say as you are building it ;-))... in the UK that stuff looks like "cling film" - will try it as I am now ready to take my Pz1A to the paint shop.....

Karl, Joel, Robert, Thanks a bunch you guys!

Joel, Make sure your paint is cured when you use the Press'n Seal or it will cling and make marks. Also i only use to mask tracks & wheels. Just wanted to be clear for ya.

Future Gloss applied. Decals and Pinwash next.

Thanks for looking!

Gary

Great looking Tiger Gary!

You use a flat coat for fading? Not satin?

Hey Dave, I always use Tamiya Flat base mixed with a bit of gloss. I then use oils and mineral spirits to fade the paint a bit. I personally get better results with the Flat.

Got most of the streaking done as well as oils on the tools.

More soon fellas!

Ah...good to see the nice clean finish giving way to some professionally applied wear and tear and grime! You have some mad skills Gary- watching your progress is awesome. How did you do the wood-grain on the tools by the way, its extremely convincing?

Karl, thanks man....always great to have ya drop in!

Dave, I love the AK stuff.....LOVE IT!!!

Robert, thanks a bunch fella!

On the jack block i use a very sharp dark brown color pencil and draw the grain on then seal in with matt clear for further washes. You can also draw grain on the tool handles but is much easier on 1/35th tools. On these 1/48 tools especially the axe, i coated lightly with brown oil paint in let sit for a bit then used a fine tip round brush and clean spirits and carefully remove oil paint till i leave the pattern you see. Hope that helps fellas.

Cheers,
Gary

Thanks Luca! The chipping was done with a fine round brush primarily and i also used the sponge method as well.

That turned out great Gary.

Isn't this about the point where the client says, "oh, I wasn't thinking it was THAT shade of yellow."

@BBD468 – Gary,

Your skills are really showing on this build and you just keep getting better my friend! I think you’ve done a masterful and beautiful job with this kit. Gary, I’m happy that you share your builds and techniques with all of us, it’s what this and other modeling forums are all about.

You’ve managed a fantastic job on the paint scheme, tools, markings, running gear and weathering. Although this little kitty (actually looks like a much larger scale build) won’t be sitting on your display shelf’s it’s a build you should be very proud about!
