Hello Gentlemen,

Was gonna start thread yesterday but it seemed the site was down. Anyways, This is a build for friend and will be built according to his personal taste. Wont be heavily weathered but not brand new looking either. A happy medium if you will. Most of the PE will not be used.

Thanks for looking,
Gary

Great start. Have fun with this Gary. The tracks gave me trouble when I tried one of these so you've been warned (glue lightly so you can re-adjust and spacing when you push the links together is critical). I've seen other people do some nice ones like this example:

Yeah, that link and length track system is a bit fiddly to set up properly.

Gary: Looking good so far. I built the grey initial version from Tamiya and there was a huge gap between the back deck and the back vertical plate. I'm sure you will be able to handle it, but something to look out for in addition to the tracks.

Happy Modeling, -zon

My "solution" to the track fit problem:

My advice is to use a tacky glue for the drive sprocket to keep it in place, yet allow some movement to finesse the tracks in place.

Hello fellas,

Many thanks for all the kind comment fellas!

Thanks for the heads up on the tracks....you guys were CORRECT! What i did was to build the tracks tight and add one extra link at the rear bottom. After primer, paint and gloss...the tracks fit right on the money!

I did have a problem however. The Kit calls for Dark Yellow and thats what i painted. Since then the client (my friend) said he had wanted Dessert Yellow all along. Soooo From the first pic you'll see Dark Yellow and the 3rd pic youll see the color has changed to Dessert Yellow. I added styrene to the barrel halves to add strenght to it so when its dry i can work the seams by useing my cordless drill as a lathe....keeps the barrel nice-n-round!

Thanks for looking fellas!

Glad to hear you worked through the track problem. Getting them right is probably the hardest part of the build (not counting PE work).

Looking good so far - just be aware - the photo of the model you posted has the correct color - tan or dark yellow is not the color the Tunisian Tiger tanks were. They were an Olive Green - if you look at the Tiger pics posted here in your thread - the ones that are from Tunisia show the tanks are darker than the yellow often painted on them.

There were two units initially in Tunisia that fielded Tiger tanks - the 501rst PD and the 504th PD. The kit you have most closely models the 501rst's Tigers, which were very unique.

My own personal opinion is that the 504th PD Tigers - (Like the Bovington Tiger for example) were painted in a camoflauge pattern in RAL 8000/8020, and the 501rst Tigers were either the same or a single green color. Either of the Troppen colors can be considered green, but they are hybrids - green/grey/brown, etc....

Hope this helps...

Thanks a bunch for your comments fellas, i appreciate it!

Thanks Dave!

Hey Karl, always a pleasure to have ya drop in buddy! You too brother Russ!

Hiya Scott, I sure appreciate your input, but if you noticed at the first of this thread, im building for someone else and its according to their taste. So while i agree with your info on colors, its not whats wanted by the client. Sooo.....Dessert Yellow it is! Puke!!!
