I agree... there are still a few items,
PE fenders,
PE turret storage bin and Metal tracks,
maybe a transmission, engine and interior sets either from Verlinden or CMK.. see Mark there's always something to add
But I read a few reviews of the resin sets, they are very good but you can hardly see a thing so in my book that's resin headaches for nothing to see...

I was only joking--looks like you've got your hands quite full--but you're right; there always seems to something else to add. Funny how many companies are making money selling AM items you would need a microscope or X-ray machine to see!

Finally came to a decision and here's what I'm proposing - an early Tiran 4....
I still have to source some T54 idlers (on order) as well as a T54 engine deck so 2 more items to add to the AM parts. Will see how I go but may also be adding some AM .30 cal MGs too.
Hopefully the above is considered acceptable to join in with this one?

Tamiya seem to be the big deal here... I´m in with another one:

All in all almost cheaper than one of Dragons Smartkits, but should be double the fun.
Not shure if I can start before next year, though... still got a Stug to do which would have qualified here aswell.

I got my hands full, that's quite enough I guess.
I bet I won't use half of that PE anyway... I wanted some of the interior sets but after reading the reviews, well... why have all that trouble for nothing ?
Either a microscope or Rick Moranis shrinking machine to get indside the kit...
I feel that painting the rubber wheels will stab my patience with a sharp sprue somehow
I might start tomorrow...

There are going to be some wild builds in this campaign.
I'm considering joining (if that is still possible) but I wanted to get your opinions if my idea is whole hog enough.
1/350 Academy Reuben James (this model comes with lots of PE)
Aftermarket antenna and barrels
anchor chain
many scratch-built extras such as internal hanger bay detail
I ask because this pales in comparison to what some of the other participants are presenting for their builds but for me this represents a significant modeling challenge. I've never done that much PE, or anything this complex. Subjectively for me this would be a very intense build i.e. the whole hog.
What do you guys think,

I've ordered a couple of more AM parts. Firstly this for the engine deck. I can use the dimensions to make a copy from styrene for a future early T54 build...
And this too...
While they are winging their way across the Tasman Sea, off we go...
First step is to remove the moulded on fenders...
A sharp scalpel blade and a few minutes later....
The upper and lower hulls are then cemented together and I've roughly applied some Tamiya putty and set this aside to cure....

Spent the last couple of evenings removing unwanted detail and filling holes with styrene, Tamiya putty and Mr Surfacer. Then varying grades of wet and dry - finishing up with 1200 grit to give a nice smooth finish....
Fuel filler cap has been relocated to the side as per T54 along with some additional bolt heads.

Final drive covers are modified as the T54 doesn't have the lubrication access point at the top - cast effect and welds also added....
The idler adjustment units are missing completely on the Tamiya kit and while Voyager provide resin parts with the fender set, they are uninspiring and extremely basic at best. From what I can work out, the 54 had two adjustment units on each side whereas the 55 had just the one. After scouring the net for pics and help from other members, I found enough info to scratch-build something resembling the real thing....
Just need to replicate that on the other side now.
And current overall status of hull....
I removed the moulded on turret ring as I'm replacing it with one supplied in the Voyager set. Why? Because I can

Repositioned final drive lubrication points....
Cast texture added to bump stops and turret overhang base along with missing welds....

Both the front and rear tow hooks need work. The fronts are way too 'squat' and are replaced with better ones from DML in my spares box. The small retaining clips are reworked kit parts and Aber PE....
The rear hooks also need a little work as the ends are far too close to the rear plate which means you wouldn't be able to fit the tow cable
There is also an optional plate to add (some T54s had these) which is made up of several PE parts. The folded up bolt heads are much easier than would first appear! All soldered together....

The engine deck is one of the distinguishing features that identifies the difference between a T54 and T55. Aside from the access panels, the main louvered grill also differs.
The Legend conversion kit easily takes care of the access hatches but the PE supplied for the louvers is only really suitable for a template at best. So I taped this piece of PE underneath and am using that as a guide to adding slats from Evergreen strip....
As for the circular hole in the resin part - you'll have to ask Legend why it's there

Intake louvers finished....
I figure that in hot climates - unless in actual combat - the cooling fan outlet cover would be open so as I'm planning on depicting this, I've made up a partial fan from sheet styrene. You won't see too much through the cover screen but this will be enough to give an indication of what's meant to actually be there....
