In for a penny, in for a pound! I'm in! Now......M1A1 hmmmmmm? Yeah! M1A1 not HA!
Question for those in the know! Abrams used by USMC partaking in Task Force Tarawa M1A1HA or just M1A1?

I was in-country with 1st and later 4th LAR, and I am almost completely certain we encountered M1A1HA's with TF Tarawa when we passed through their lines. Could have been mistaken, I was pretty tired, something about not getting a whole lot of sleep. I think I might have a picture of one somewhere.

Rob,
If I am one of your favorite tankers, then you have low standards as I am just what my name says, a tankrider... Not quite good enough to be called a "Tanker." Moriarty was a tanker, Oddball was a tankrider. Well, as for the build, I guess that I will do a SEP in the NATO three color scheme. I have Rule Five down now and will comply...
As for Savage's question, TFT as well as 1MARDIV all used M1A1 Heavy Commons (common tank between the USMC & US Army). The HC is basically an upgraded HA tank with internal tweaks (wiring harness upgrades, some stowage changes). The USMC tanks have some unique features such as eight barrelled smoke grenade launchers, AMD (Dazzler), improved gunners sights. Post over on ML Modern Armor and ask Andy Elesky, a USMC super TANKER, what all the differences are.

Count me in as i have never build an Abrams and i am in good way finishing my entries for campaighns Cover Up and Death From Above , so i will make it . Dont have an Abrams for the time, but i will appreciated it if someone (you as a specialist !!) suggested some decent kits so that i pick one in christmas. So add me to the list and tell me what you think i should choose to build !! thanks

Oops, my bad. I now know what you mean by "OAID" as well as understand rule #5. On Rule #5, clarification - are we allowed to use a name already selected, say Jurgen uses your name (screen name, nickname, real name - either of the above) - can another use any of your remaining "names"? Or are we limited to just one member - period? Sorry if I sound like complicating things. Afterall, you don't want all Abrams to have the name "BroAbrams" on their gun barrels, right?
As to cost: Hmmm... I was thinking of suggesting we do this simply OOTB if it's okay, without using AM or PE products, something like the "Death From Above" campaign, which IIRC you are limited to scratchbuilding some parts if you like to detail it, but not use AM or PE.
If ever I do got the time to really join, I might just build one in 1/72 rather than 1/35 - more fun for me that way, considering I was able to finish my Revell Challenger I KFOR 1/72 in under three days (without paint of course) and had much fun doing so without cost to my other stuff (read: study), so in a sense this'll be a leisure build for me. :-)

Okay, here are the final rules as submitted for the campaign:
1. The model will show an M1 series General Abrams MBT of any era, any theatre, any scale.
2. The model must be a true representation of an Abrams, no fictional nationalities or future variations. The Australian variant is permissable, as are Egyptian and Kuwaiti variants.
3. Start date is 14 February, 2004 (The hosts b-day)
4. End date is 14 May, 2004
5. The model itself must include the name, in full or in part, of at least one other participant in the "OAID" campaign. This can include full name, screen name, or nickname.
If you can concieve a project within these parameters, then it is acceptable. I won't question much. Colt, if you want to do that Chieftan with an Abrams and you can come up with a plausible explanation, go for it.
The following participants have agreed to sign on:
Jurgen
SgtReefe
WeWillHold
Grasshopp12
GunTruck
Holdfast
White4doc
Turrettoad13
teternal
Bravo-Comm2
GlBeregovoy
ColtM4 is tentative, so I haven't submitted your name yet.

GIBeregovoy, There is no limit to which name anyone uses, and I won't assign names or anything. I think it will be a true test of a modellers skill to be able to use anyone's name that is signed up for this campaign. The more unknown, the moe skill, so people should seek out the lesser known people in the build, and bring some notority to them. I can't sy my name is off limits, but I didn't start this for fame, just power and wealth. So maybe you should use others names before mine. I also can't say you can't use AM stuff, because to load it down properly, you will need AM stores. Plus, I already have the PE sets and I have used them on the one I will be re-starting in February, so it would kinda be hard to say I can use it, but not anyone else, which would disqualify me from my own campaign. I can say this isn't about AM stuff, it is about skill, and I intend to use more skill than AM stuff.
Jeff, (sgtreef), I am sorry I mispelled your name.
Major Goose, I am going to suggest either the Italeri M1A2 or the DML M1A1HA, as these are two of the better kits for the Abrams, but not in that order. The DML one can be a bit tricky to work on, especially the bustle rack, but it is pretty accurate. I have not done the Italeri one, but understand it to be pretty accurate. Plus it has a battery box and a track tensioner, which none of the other kits have.

I have the DragonM1A2 Abrams, Marines "Road to Baghdad". I will get a throw away digital camera and a few bits for it and join this one (if you'll have me).Does this have to take place in Iraq?
I was hoping to make this one in Korea. It is also to be a part of a Diorama so....is that exceptable?
Now.....how do you spell BroAbrams?

I think someone is not listening on so many levels.:-) Korea is fine, Fort Carson is fine, anywhere is fine, as long as there really is or was an abrams in that place.

Hi BroAbrams,
can I put my name forward for this future build? I have Dragons USMC M1A1 Abram’s (heavy armour), if I have time to build a dio, can I use this with a few other things like a Mutt & trailer and several figures?
Great idea for a build.

Rob: Ok. Don't worry, I didn't intend on using any of yer names for my build anyway hehehe
Edit: Rereading my post, it might be open to "negative interpretation." No slight intended at above post, just being merely honest that I won't be using your name. Might use "WeWillHold" or "Holdfast" as these sound quite appropriate. :-)

Hi all, I'm a new guy on the system... this sounds like fun, and I've got an ESCI/ERTL M1A1 in 1/35 that's itching to be started. I'm deciding about a diorama, though, as I've got a Bradley to do too. So count me in!

I'm definitely entering with a 1/72 Abrams and doing something "special" with it. 2-tone desert camo, no skirts, with MILES - a KVT as used in the NTC.
