When I'm not noodling around with 1/100 scale miniatures for gaming, I like to step up my game, so to speak, and tackle something highly detailed. It has been close to a year since I finished my
Early Tiger, so I thought it was about time to dig in to something more complicated than a 2-piece 15mm mini:
I wanted complicated, and that's what I got! It has taken me about 3 months just to assemble this kit, and now I'm finally ready to start painting.
I have some figures to go with the vehicle, and I plan to put it all together into a small diorama.

WOW! Impressive looking build, excellent looking. That is a lot of PE, can't wait to see the painted version.

whoa, that looks really nice! Almost a shame to cover it up in paint. I don;t know how you guys have the patience to deal with all the PE; much respect.

Can you please tell us which PE sets and maker you chose?
(including resin-parts like the wheels...)

Awesome job. Like someone said, it's almost a shame to cover it up with paints.
One question: Did we have LAV-III with all this stuff on them in Afghanistan? And this question is not only for the OP, it's for everyone ;-)

Thanks for the comments chaps. The PE set is a resin/photoetch upgrade kit from Real Model - in addition to the metal, it comes with resin tires and a few other accessories (antenna mounts, replacement smoke mortars, and some stowage not shown in my photos), plus two half-figures for the turret. There are a bunch of different variations of upgrade kits. The one I'm using is the 2008/2009 upgrade set.
That goes to your question, Marc: our LAV-IIIs did have all this stuff, but only late in the deployment. The base Trumpeter kit represents (with some inaccuracies) an earlier version of the LAV. There is another upgrade set available from Real Model to represent the LORIT modifications, which I think was done in parallel with the changes you see to the version I'm building.
If you are considering buying a Real Model upgrade kit, I can highly recommend the "Canadian LAV III In Afghanistan" photo booklet they have for sale as well. It has been a fantastic reference.
As well as the Real Model upgrade kit, I have two standing Canadian soldier figures from Black Dog that I will be using for my diorama, and a set of prints from Real Model that I can cut out and turn into Pringles cans and Tim Hortons coffee cups!

3 months?It would have taken me at least 6.I don't like PE.

Months later, I have some updates to show:
I reckon the vehicle itself is pretty much done. Now I have to paint the figures I have to go with it, and build a scenic base for them all to live on.

I never did a lav from any country and I never did any Canadian theme stuff I always wanted to do something from Canada. Now seeing this impressive model with all that metal an resin is inspiring me to go an try my skills at it. I know it will take me longer an hopefully come out half as good as yours I'll be happy with myself. What a master piece!

I finally put an end to the figures I bought to diorama-ize my LAV model. I wasn't super happy with how they turned out, but I'm not going to spend any more time on them!
I have already started work on the diorama base, so hopefully I can get some photos of that soon.

I love how elongated and derpy looking the guy on the left's face is.
