@Paul: [quote]Bob nice kit there. There all plenty of camo schemes out there I'll get some links for you posted soon.
[quote]
Not to worry Paul, I think that there is plenty of time and I have only started the process of gluing the right side on the hull.
@Kimmo:just grab any kit even if some one else has it as their campaign entry, even if you build the same kit as me we can exchange notes on our success's and failures. I know that others would enjoy the information to help with their own builds besides a different paint scheme does wonders for everything.

That´s right... so if you gont a Trumpeter kit listen up:
I´ve got a "some work" on my Big Turret done and would suggest to complete the running gear before you glue it on the hull:
This makes it a lot easier to fit the tracks
added the missing covers for the sight-/pistolports on the turret front and filled the the hole for the coax, as the Mod´39 had none:
That is what it looks like now, just a few nasty things on todo...

well.. at first, both ways of dealing with them do work...
and it might be just my personal feeling about it, but what I was thinking that, if you can have them directly on your bench, handling might be easier...
The Idea for the cleanup might work, otherwise you´re spending close to two hours, just for the roadweels and return rollers... and that sucks...
My first one is ready for paint, added a few bits and pices from scatch:
The figure comrs from MiniArt, German Feldgendarmerie, quite nice, but with a few fiiting issues around the arms

Hey Anthony,
Go to this link
https://armorama.kitmaker.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=Campaigns&file=index&req=showcontent&id=733
read the rules and enlist.
Typical rule is to post a photo of the kit (box) with all the parts. This way it is known that it is not started.

For the type of the model, I can build any from SU family , like SU 85, but it has t34 track, or only SU152 with track from KV1S, I believe.

i would assume the SU 152 would be the only acceptable SU assault gun , like you stated.

Fabian you gotta be kiddin' me dude, paint already?
I thought Sal and myself were fast, but you have have taken it. Do you drink the rocket fuel you bath in ?
Bob nice progress there, the thread you was looking for is from KoSprueOne "Three T-55 variant kits by SKIF"
Marc and Bob thanks for pointing Anthony in the right direction
Anthony Welcome to Armorama an to my campaign.
Now you have the sign up page please make sure
you do enlist. If not you will not qualify the cool award at the end of the campaign.
Also you can build any variant of the KV series, as for the SP gun the only one out there is the SU 152 to date. Unless you can get this baby:
I also advise that you get a Flickr or Photobucket account as this makes life easier for posting pics. The Flickr account gives 1 Terabyte of space for free, the Photobucket is considerably less unless you subscribe.
If you have any questions then just ask, everyone is helpful on here, plus the campaigns admin is also playing along with us

I´ve used a copper wire from an old electromotor... diameter is someway around 0.15mm

Rocket fuel? no just a few days off
But after some serious money earning stuff (We had Fasching (carnival)... ) I´m taking it a bit slower... but I´m not burned out yet

I'm late! Hopefully I can make-up for it with a nice fat update!
I could hardly wait for this campaign to begin, as the KV is perhaps my favorite modeling subject. My very first model was Tamiya's venerable KV-1 kit way back when I was eleven or twelve, and the kit was not all that old! I have had a thing for KVs ever since.
Being a glutton for punishment, I will be doing two (2) of Trumpeter's 1/35 KV kits, the KV-1S and the 1942 model "Lightweight Turret" (LW henceforth)versions. And further being a sucker for photo etch and other after market goodies, the KV-1S will be getting etch parts from Jordi Rubio, while the LW version will get the Eduard treatment.
I was so excited to get started, I forgot to take pictures, at least initially, but I see such early steps as assembling the basic hull have been well-covered by others. I was still very early in the process when I started snapping pics, so you didn't miss much!
While Trumpeter's kits are generally really good, they are still Trumpeter after all, so there are the usual errors that need to be corrected. one of the worst of these on the KV-1S kit is the tracks, which are wrong for most versions of this type. I have literally been waiting for decades to get a good KV-1S kit, and I want to do this one right, so I ordered a set of after-market tracks from Master Club. These turned out to be really nice except for one thing: the holes for the connector pins needed to be drilled-out by hand on each of the 400-odd track links! Here are a couple shots of the separate components, and a short run of assembled tracks
Needless to say, I won't be ordering anything from Master Club again anytime soon! I spent two evenings doing nothing but drilling out track links while watching Netflix. I did manage to speed up the process a bit when I chucked my pin vice with mounted drill bit into a cordless power drill.
Trumpeter's KV-1S turret comes split into right and left halves, which is really unfortunate if you want to preserve the texture molded into the surface. This is not a difficult thing to overcome however.
I simply used a stiff brush and some Mr. Surfacer 500 and stippled the offending seams. After drying and a quick sanding, the process was repeated. I will follow up by doing the rest of the turret so it all looks uniform.
The LW turret came in for some correction, too. As can be seen from the drawing from one of my references (Neil Stokes' excellent and exhaustive tome on the KV) the lip of the turret roof was unbroken and uniform all the way around its edge, at least for many examples you can find in the photographic record:
Compare this with the turret roof as presented by Trumpeter:
Note the circled areas. Now there do seem to be 1942 cast turrets which appear to have this condition, but I elected to go with the more conventional style, so out came the razor saw:
A little filler and sanding, and it should be good-to-go! once the modifications are done, the LW cast turret will also be getting the Mr. Surfacer texture treatment, as photos show KV turrets to generally be pretty rough.
To be continued!

Fabian that's looking real cool , I like the tonal shading you have made
As to the rope, well it depends. It could be a dirty grimey colour due to being handled with oily and dirty hands, or you could go the tan colour you have suggested . It's your build
mate so you will have to choose
Greg welcome the KV campaign, you bring 2 very nice choices with you . Do not worry about the start pics,
I always trust that everybody has started new kits, and therefore do not need pics with dates or newspapers on them
The tracks look very nice, even though you have to re-work them

Greg - Don't give up on Masterclub just yet mate.
I was in a similar position for my KV choice (Trumpy's KV-1 Ekranami) and went with Masterclub. I had heard mixed reviews for their resin sets, most complaints being the one you have noted.
I do find it odd that Friul tracks don't seem to get marked down in (most) reviews despite having the same issue though.
Anyway, I got a set of their metal tracks (35027). These come pre-drilled but retain the great quality.
I've not yet attempted assembling them, with those tiny tiny pins...But I'll let you know how I get on and maybe post some pics as assembly progresses if you wish?
They seem to still be a newcomer but I hope they continue - It'd be nice to see metal track prices drop as a result of some good competition!
To stay on topic - Still haven't started my KV, want to finish off 2 other campaign kits first but very eager to crack open the box!
Great to see the progress others are making and looking forward to see all the variants over the time.

Thanks Paul!
Alex - I was put-off on Master Box because the "/review" I read on them (at Perth Military Modeling) claimed the track pin holes were open. I complained to MB about it, and supposedly they were going to look into it.
In any event, the tracks are VERY NICE once you drill them out. It's an enormous pain to do though. I have used Fruil tracks a few times, and have never run into that. But Fruil are almost twice the cost! What would have been REALLY nice is if Trumpeter had got the tracks right in the first place. Trumpeter is always a mixed blessing.

Coming in with this kit:
What I'm working towards, KV-7-1 (U-13):
Object 227 (KV-7-1 / U-13) Was an experimental SPG on the KV-1 chassis, which had one 76.2mm F-34 gun centrally mounted with one 45mm 20k gun on each side. One was built and tested in 1941. It could not fight tanks, and did poorly against bunkers because of the small caliber of the guns. It was decided that a large gun would be better, and this paved the way for the SU-152.
I have only seen the same two or so pictures of this tank, with the other 2 or so I see all the time being the KV-7-2 (two F-32 guns). Which made getting some of the smaller detail hard. Especially the roof detail. The line drawings and renders that I have seen usually blend traits of the -1 and -2.
This picture answered a few of my questions. The roof should have bolts along the edges and a bulge protruding to the front middle. Also a bulge on the frontal plate for the guns/mantlet. From one picture of the KV-7-2 I've seen, the fenders don't meet the castmate and just end. Then the road wheels are slightly different, well, I'll see how I pull this one off. Oh and I don't have any measurements, just approximations off some line drawing I saw and pictures of a 1/72 scale kit.
Just started working on the castmate, after that, the rest should go together easy.
