Most of what I have covered is for those interested in starting out casting without the aid of either pressure or vacuum. Even casting without any equipment can be spendy enough for most folks. For the purposes of these forums I won't be getting into a discussion on pressure or vacuum casting though. Pressure casting especially has the potential to be EXTREMELY DANGEROUS and therefore I won't be discussing it at all. Please, please, please follow all the manufacturer's safe handling guidelines and wear personal protective gear when dealing with casting materials. Most especially gloves and goggles people! Don't even think about starting without those.
The average modeler can achieve some great results using the methods I've already outlined and at a reasonable cost. There are a couple other methods that don't require pressure or vacuum but the simplest way I have personally tried is just how I described earlier. Hope my answers so far haven't rambled on too much and have at least answered a few questions.

Using a vessel design as a pressure vessel is safe as long as you follow the directions for use, yes it can potentially dangerous.
(I happen to use a pressure pot designed for paint, and follow their recommendations for pressure. I always had issues with bubbles, as I had no vibrating table or similar (tried the washer/drier thing and it didn't help)

Go with smooth on "smooth cast 320" for resin and use their rubber as well.
That's what I use.
