Its about time , these have been in the works for years , the box art says 2012 . Was it that long ago MiniArt first mentioned them ? Any way they look good , will have to get a set .

It appears the flag has been painted as the current 50-star flag (offset rows of stars) rather than the 48-star flag of the WWII era. The set looks nice. I wonder if it will include lead foil for the harness, reins, and stirrups.

And from the "yes, but" I would love to see the US and Filipino mounted troops that fought in the Philippines.
And I doubt there'll be lead foil. Too many other options preferred by so many modelers that often offering nothing is a better bet than giving something that won't be used. But being Miniart; maybe, just maybe there'll be something.

Been awhile, now all we need is the rain gear set.

Indeed it has been a long while since this was announced.
I have updated this post with photos of the sprues. I don't see anything that may be for the harnesses / reins, so I would assume the builder has to provide for his own.
Cheers,
Tat

Are any of the body parts and especially hats from ICM's doughboys set good for conversion work?

Am I mistaken, or is the weapon held by the guy with the flag different in the painted and unpainted pix? The painted one looks like rubbish, as does the one on the sprues. he one in the painted pix though looks much better.

Is it me, or are the painted examples totally different figures?

Very different. From facial features to the guy with the flag having little short legs and tiny boots in the painted versions.

The standing horse's head seemed raised in the unpainted and at rest in the painted version. Prototype art work I guess

Just the hats and gear. The guys in the Philippines were in shirt sleeves with fall collars. Though with the Doughboys you could make the US Provost troops from World War I.
Use bits from the Masterbox Civil War cavalry, the Doughboys and the 29th ID guy here and you could kitbash a Pershing Punitive Expedition cavalryman.

Hello All,
I have checked with MiniArt and was advised that the unpainted and painted examples are indeed different. The unpainted figures were the first masters, which they unfortunately lost following their relocation from the Crimea. They had to do it all over again, with a new sculptor, thus it had taken quite a while till they were ready to release the kit. I have updated the photo gallery to correctly reflect what is to be released.
Cheers,
Tat

There was a mention about a army trooper during the battle in the hedge rows were he tied a piece of steel plate to his chest and rode ahead (on a horse) of the advance. When the Germans would fire he would direct return fire from the rest of the company. Will have to look through my books and reread the account.

There is a photo from the liberation of either Brest or Cherbourg (can't remember which) which has the mounted trooper with rifle guiding or escorting a column of German prisoners through a narrow city street. Frenchy will, no doubt, have this photo at his fingertips!

This seems to be the inspiration for the other figure:

Dunno, that photo is of a US Cavalryman training stateside with full equipment whereas the set is supposedly of US troops who rode acquired horses in combat areas fr different reasons. Would be nice if the set included all the gear in that picture so one could do US cavalry, but the pictures don't show it.

Wonder if they did or will offer a spin-off of these as Special Forces in Afghanistan, esp. considering the release of the recent movie and the interest that it generated. Bearded guys in weird clothes and spray-camouflaged M4s. Great dio potential. Got my interest.
