Just the hats and gear. The guys in the Philippines were in shirt sleeves with fall collars. Though with the Doughboys you could make the US Provost troops from World War I. Use bits from the Masterbox Civil War cavalry,the Doughboys and the 29th ID guy here and you could kitbash a Pershing Punitive Expedition cavalryman.

If for no other reason I'd p/u the set just for the horses.

Hello All, I have checked with MiniArt and was advised that the unpainted and painted examples are indeed different. The unpainted figures were the first masters, which they unfortunately lost following their relocation from the Crimea. They had to do it all over again, with a new sculptor, thus it had taken quite a while till they were ready to release the kit. There was a mention about a army trooper during the battle in the hedge rows were he tied a piece of steel plate to his chest and rode ahead (on a horse) of the advance. When the Germans would fire he would direct return fire from the rest of the company. Will have to look through my books and reread the account.

There is a photo from the liberation of either Brest or Cherbourg (can't remember which) which has the mounted trooper with rifle guiding or escorting a column of German prisoners through a narrow city street. Frenchy will, no doubt, have this photo at his fingertips!

Dunno, that photo is of a US Cavalryman training stateside with full equipment whereas the set is supposedly of US troops who rode acquired horses in combat areas fr different reasons. Would be nice if the set included all the gear in that picture so one could do US cavalry, but the pictures don't show it.

Wonder if they did or will offer a spin-off of these as Special Forces in Afghanistan, esp. considering the release of the recent movie and the interest that it generated. Bearded guys in weird clothes and spray-camouflaged M4s. Great dio potential. Got my interest.
