I think I'll break out the DML Firefly Ic Hybrid for this build. I already stole the 75mm turret from the kit.

Howdy fellas of the 'Great White North'......ehh?
Congrat's on getting this one approved.....good on ya!
Just a silly query from a 'Canuck' -challenged modeler.....
First, isn't the 'Grizzly' a six-wheeled Canadian version of the standard eight-wheeled U.S. LAV??.........or am I just having another synapse misfiring outbreak?
If not......then just queitly ignore my ramblings......if Yes.....then I have a follow-up question.
How hard would it be to remove the '2nd' wheel from the Revell LAV kit and build up a 'Grizzly'?
Tread.
Man......I hope my short-term memory loss 'thing' isn't kickin' in here........that would be embarassing.

Hi Guys,
Well in a way you are both correct. Tread the Grizzly you refer to is a similar vehicle to the 8 wheel LAV, it actually is a direct descendant of the Mowag Piranah. There are dimensional and fundamental differences I believe between the Lav and the grizz. . Also the Grizzly uses a Cadilac Guage Turret with a .50 and GPMG mounted side by side. Im sure Paul can jump in if I missed or cocked up anything. But from what I can remember its not a very straight forward conversion but not impossible.
Shermie you are also correct in that the first Grizzly was in fact the Canadian Produced M4A1 early Manufactured at the Montreal Locomotive works.. We like to name our vehicles after animals and like our football teams we tend to use the same name over and over again :-) :-)

Howdy again fellas,
ex-royal said: "...it actually is a direct descendant of the Mowag Piranah. ..."
Now, I thought the Mowag was the LAV III design, or the same bodystyle that the U.S.now calls the 'Stryker'?
I've got the Revell kit #03054 LAV-25 (MC) "Piranha" and the body looks almost identical (including the turret) to the top photo of the "Grizzly", with the one major exception being the extra 'eight' wheel.........help me out here........

Tread,
From what I understand about Mowag hulls, all of our LAV designs are based on it. The AVGP family (Grizzly, Cougar, Husky and Grizzly CP) are of the same body. They differ from the Coyote/ Bison hull by length, slope of glacis, width and general layout. I've driven the above vehicles, as well, and they even drive differently. The Coyote is externally similar to, if not the same as, the Lav-25 Pirhana but is 20 years more modern, and is a reconnaisance vehicle with much different equipment. And the LAV III is different than all of them and is the father of the Stryker. After we tested the initial production run, we received notice from GM Canada that the USA was buying the design.

Howdy,
Thx for the replies fellas. I'm not talking about the LAV III or the Stryker bodystyle. I'm talking about the regular LAV 25 body.
Maybe it's my failing in remembering the proper moniker for the Canadian vehicle, I thought it was the Grizzly, but maybe it's the Cougar........just a sec, and I'll check my 'Blue Helmet' references.........apparently it's indeed partially my fault. The picture reference I have is of a UN deployed Canadian Cougar vehicle operating under UNPROFOR's in Bosnia, Summer of 1994.
{ Squadron Signal publication #4018. "The Blue Helmets Under Fire", Page # 70. }
Is that the same as a Grizzly?
Anyway...I was just trying to get to the bottom of the potential of utilizing the Revell LAV kit as a basekit for a Canadian-based AFV. Hopefully using the regular 8-wheeled LAV kit and performing a few 'adjustments' can indeed render a Canadian Cougar / Grizzly.....?...?

Same Family of vehicles but not the same role. The Grizzly is an APC and the Cougar is a Direct FIre support vehicle. But as I said earlier they are direct descendants of the Swiss Mowag Pirahnna. You can see the difference in the bodies as well. An answer to your question is no i'm afraid. There are more differences than just the additional wheel. The body of the 8 wheel and the 6 wheel is different. It can be done with alot of work. I believe JP Morgan has an article on Missing Links that might be able to help you. That said I am by no means an expert here.
Cheers,
Bryan
