Hi folks,
I suggested the below campaign over at
The Springbok Club a few weeks ago. After receiving overwhelming support from the SA community and a few more guests, I submitted a proposal to CCC...
Here are some details about it:

Herewith follows a list of British campaigns (simply as an example) and key battles which should provide a starting point for participants:
- Abyssinia 1940-41: Keren, Amba Alagi, The Juba, Gondar
- British Somaliland 1940
- Iraq 1941
- Syria 1941: Damascus, Damour

Hi Rudi,
I would love to take part in this campaign but at that time I will be in England. Though I may try and do some figure painting if I can.

Erik, why don't you get some support for such a campaign, mash out an acceptable date and I'm in. ‘The Forgotten Cause’ as many of those soldiers thought of themselves, saw some of the toughest fighting and also saw the Japanese not only stopped, but also defeated and chased back through the jungle with large losses on both sides to disease, exhaustion and malnutrition.
Rudi, I forgot to mention that, as the campaign covers the Mediterranean, ‘Operation Dragoon’ (15 August 1944) the invasion of southern France, should be included as well. Operation Dragoon incorporated Operation Dove (the glider-borne assault) and it’s deception ‘Operation Span’ (the fake amphibious landings on Corsica).
We’re up to 10 supporters for this campaign. Rudi, you can now ‘Submit A New Campaign’ proposal.

Thanks for all the support lads. The proposal has already been put forth, but I'll forward the link to Guntruck (aka Jim Lewis).
Eric, yes the campaign covers all aspects and operations within the Med & Middle East...
Bren, hash out your proposal and I'll give it my support!
Rudi

Do the Balkans count? I'm thinking of doing a Yugoslav Partisan T-34/85 that fought in Trieste.

Ziga,
I stand under correction, but didn't the Balkans fall under the eastern front?
Savage, am I correct?

Well I don't know where the Balkans fell, but I know that Trieste is on the Adriatic coast. And the Adriatic sea is a part of the Mediterranean.

Ciao all,
I have to agree with Ziga. The Balkans would definitely fall under the Med, as would any Greek actions.

Right, talk about a grey area.
The Royal and Merchant Naval service recognises the Mediterranean and the Aegean Seas as two separate entities.
IIRC the Balkans & Aegean Campaign / theatre of operations were the headache of the Supreme Allied Commander in the Mediterranean. IIRC the RAF and Royal Navy used different distinctions for the ‘area’ as well. It was not until Marshall Tito decided to expand the territories that Trieste got any ‘Official’ notice. From the Soviet’s viewpoint (as well as Marshall Tito’s) it obviously fell into the Eastern Front.
Firstly about Trieste… “Trieste is an Italian port city located in the north-eastern part of Italy on the border with Slovenia, overlooking the Gulf of Trieste”. The Gulf of Trieste is part of the Adriatic Sea, which is a part of the Mediterranean.
Rudi you could take it either way.
Edit: Sorry forgot to mention that do to an overlap of operational areas Administratively, Trieste (for a short period) from May 1945 fell into literally two sectors and had two administrators at the same time. Marshall Tito (Eastern Front) and Gen. Sir Bernard Freyberg (Med Theatre).

More things about Trieste and its "owners". Now, we'll stick just to the facts, we don't want a fight about history, do we.
Before the WW1 Trieste was a major port of the Austrio-Hungarian Empire. When the war broke out Italy reamaind neutral. But, in 1915, Italy signed the London agreement. This meant that Italy would join GB, France, Russia and Serbia and after the war they would get some parts of the AO Empire (the Dalmatian coast and Trieste). After the war they got Trieste but instead thee Dalmatian coast they got some land which is now the western part of Slovenia.
At the end of WW2 Trieste was liberated by Yugoslav (mostly Slovene) partisans. After the war Yugoslavia and Italy wanted Trieste and its sourondings for themselves. So the Allies split the teritory in two pieces. Zone A and zone B of hte Free Trieste Teritory (this may sound silly, its a direct translation from Slovene). Zone B was under Yugoslav leadership. Zone A, which included Trieste was suposoed to be an independet country but was given to the Italians in 1947. So, this may be simplified a bit, but I think its still correct. Hope you understand.
ps: Emm.. Tarok (nice nick BTW), Abyssinia is far from the Mediterranean.
