Here is the start of my Burn Baby Burn. A guy with a torch is about to light up the MG42 bunker. I used styrofoam to build the bunker and will skim coat it with dry wall compound. I will scratch a steel door. I also have the back blast wall that will prevent direct fire on the door.

I haven't decided if I'm going to do a scene where they are just about to light it up with the MG crew inside blasting away or...
.... have the flamethrower guy firing a stream of napalm through the back door incinerating everything inside

Very nice, keep it up. I like the stain under the pipe and the exposed wires.

i like the exposed rebar from inside the structure, too. is there too much oxidation on the side of the pipe? cant wait to see what's next!

Getting ready to torch the MG bunker. I watched that scene in Saving Private Ryan as inspiration for my Burn Baby Burn

Excellent start Alan. I really like what you have there so far. The Rebarb showing through is a nice touch as is the moss on the sides and top of the bunker. Great job so far, and knowing what else you have planned for this one..I'm sure it will be a winner...Can't wait to see more progress.

I like the bunker it's well done, very used, I too like the rebar.
My biggest concern with this is the cardboard base. Are you planning on removing it from the cardboard and putting it on something more substantial?

The cardboard was used just to give the bunker some structural integrity while I was building it. I also (embarrassed) ran out of wood for bases. It might be sunk into the groundwork as a concrete slab. I have cut some wood planks for the botton of the trench/entryway and it covers up a lot of the cardboard. If I sink it into the plaster it should work well.
I could use an opinion: Do you think all the troopers should be concentrating on the door as in the pic below
...or do you think I should have some pointing away from the bunker covering against attacking Germans?
I knida like the top photo and when I was watching Saving Private Ryan I did not see anyone in the immediate vicinity looking out for attacking Germans

I think the covering guys would keep some distance from the bunker. There might be a backblast or a large stock of explosives . I would also place the wall closer to the door, they are to avoid anything entering by accident, and the space between the wall and door would typicaly only about two to three (max) foot wide.
Other than that, I think you have done a great job, and should look good in a nice base.
Cheers
Henk

Thanks Henk. If I put the blast wall any closer you cannot get a good look at the flamthrower, which is the whole point of the dio!!! With regards to back blast. In SPR they are right there on either side of the door. I do have the Thompson guy leaning back

i like the guys facing door, not covering another area. how did you get the idea to put wood planks at the bunker entry? put up your latest pic!

The many times at the bottom of a trench they use planks so you don't get step directly in the mud and water that settled on the bottom.
I also looked at a number of Atlantic Wall bunker pics and many of them have planks

Here is the next step. I still have to align the flameblast to the same angles as the flame nozzle but this is just a test flame blast. I also still haven't added any color
Here a shot of the flamethrower dude lighting up the bunker from the rear and the blast overflowing out the gun slit

Very nice idea and you are making a great dio out of it.
The concrete and rusty pipe looks very convincing.
Absolutely inspiring to follow your progress on it!
