Here is my Burn Baby Burn in progress. Note that nothing is glued down yet so things still have to be lined up but I think all the major parts are now complete. Still have to add the debris and assort boxes, crates and oil drums. I would say it's about 80% done

ooh hehe! i get it now!!
i LOVE the flame explosion! that worked out really well. difficult effect to recreate, but i think you did great!! dont forget to stain those boards. can you add some more plaster or something to the bottom of the dio to hide the cardboard corrugation?

I rolled up cotton balls between my fingers. I sprayed the cotton orange after I opened up the balls into a frayed out shape. Then I sprayed some black over the orange. I'm still experimenting. I think I might need some yellow. Maybe I'll try yellow first, orange over than , then black.

As for the cardboard, it will be sunk into the groundwork plaster to simulate a cement slab.

yeah, think about how lava looks as its rolling. hot red/ orange/yellow with crackles of black on the outer edges. do you have any video references you can check for color? im envisioning the flash-smoke that occurs. i know you'd have some orange/red.. but would you have a brighter color too? would the white be enough from the cotton to cover the brightness of a blast?

Definately like the flame job, very unique. The one thing I wanted to give you kudos on was the personnel providing local security for the flame thrower, very well thought out.

Maybe you can add bodies flying out from the front just like in saving ryans' private...
I mean saving private ryan

Eerie, my original inspiration has been that scene from Saving Private Ryan. I have been considering adding a body since the beginning of the build. I am just not sure if I want to add one or not.

First off it would be difficult finding a figure. I supposed I could go to the scrap box and cobble one together since the imperfections will not matter when a body is burned beyond recognition.

Second, well, since a body will be burned beyond recognition I thought it just might be too tasteless to model.

Perhaps people can give me your opinions.

Hi Alan, I agree with Eerie about the MG crew jumping out for dear life out from the bunker. It will add to the drama..I think just half a body will do. Probably u need to re-model a figure. The Saving Pte Ryan scene is a good scene to study the flame colors.. U inspired me to make a similar model.

I like it a lot !!

I think the flames need a little work IMO

I'd try dipping the cotton in a black wash then maybe adding the orange, to get some "depth" into that broiling mass of flame.

Well, what about a part of a body? A roasted arm or something? But perhaps it's too cruel indeed.

I also like the flames very much. I was wondering if you could give it an extra effect with a little 3 V lamp light placed in the bunker to light the flames up.
Just a thought.

Alan, it's becoming such a great looking diorama!
Did you make the barbewire yourself or is it an aftermarket product?

If you want, please take a look here for some pictures of an Omaha Beach diorama I took a few weeks ago in a museum. Perhaps it gives you some ideas or comparising: https://armorama.kitmaker.net/forums/55476&page=1

Looking forward on your progress!

I made the barbed wire on my own using an article I found in the FEATURES section of ArmoramA

https://armorama.kitmaker.net//features/107

The only thing I did different was using 28 gauge wire since I couldn't find 34 gauge. 28 is a little bit thick but OK.

Although the fire coming from these wheels is not raw fuel as from a flamethrower, the tires are a petroleum product. As a result, this is similar to the flames a flamethrower would produce. As you can see, it is mostly orange, but with heavy black smoke.

I like your idea and the execution. Unless you are trying to replicate the instant of firing the flamethrower, there should be black smoke already flowing up the front of the bunker. All fire wants to do inside an enclosure is get up and out. Keep us posted.

wow, what a transformation! it's amazing how adding a few walls and sandbags change the whole look of a scene.

PLMP110 is on to something with that picture - you think you might want to put some heavy black smoke cotton balls in the scene?

Probably after I finish painting the figures and spend a few hours playing with them and making shooting noises, artillery sounds and explosion sound effects, I'll set them them up into positions that I like and finalize the layout. Of course then I will have to do the final touches like garbage, gravel, rocks and paint touch ups.

I'm happy with the way the scene is developing.

Almost there!! Figures are in place. The whole dio will be dullcoated after I touch up the grass and add some more rocks and gravel. Last will be the base trim
