Paul,
This will be a short response, but one I think will say a lot:
Your methods and insights are really wonderful. The way you've laid this out visually (words and pictures) is way above par. I seriously think this would make a good article.
So far, it looks fantastic! I like the wheeled-thingies much more than tracked now and the 222 was one of the first I've built in a long time. This "tutorial" you've put together is my down fall - I'm getting another and I hope you don't mind me (later on) following along.
Nuff said! Outfriggin'standin'!
Mike

Excellent work, I built this same kit awhile back but without all of the bells and whistles. I look at mine and want to toss it in the parts bin :-)

Cheers guys, appreciate it!
I've prepared in advance the main stowage box, by cuttin' away the moulded in bracket details and addin' PE pieces. I've also folded into shape the one-piece jerrycan holders, and put together a couple of jerrycans, that are included in the kit. The kit has a total of 6 fuel drums, a fuel pump (inc. all fittings), 4 fuel jerrycans and 4 water jerrycans.

This, at least needs to be put in before the two halves are cemented together! Otherwise, no chance!
Here i've cemented together the upper an lower hull parts, after which I brushed on a thin sliver of superglue along the join, follwed up by some sandin'! The small protrudin' nubs on either side of the front of the vehicle, are what the wheel arches rest on. I had to clip or cut away a part of the corner of it in order to accommodate an important piece of PE that fits underneath the wheel arches, because there will be brackets fitted underneath here, too!
Here on the rear-end, you can jus' make out the latches on the engine deck hatches. I've also filled the old Tamiya jerrycan bracket location holes, in order for my PE bracket pieces to have somethin' to adhere too! This is jus' the start of all the PE pieces for the exterior, of which there is a lot, and then some!

Not only are you a good builder but an excellent photagrapher as well.
Throughly enjoying this thread, being a figure sculptor I dont have much time to build kits, but the 222 has always been a favourit of mine. The more I look at these threads the more I want to put together a kit.
Looking forward to the next step.

I've made more progress on the exterior, startin' with the wheel arches! This is where it starts to take shape, and gets more excitin'! I've cut away the triangular lip on one side of the wheel arches. This is what it looks like, havin' done side...
...and here is the PE piece, that will fit in place of the above...
...and this pic shows jus' one of the six brackets, i've folded and yet to fit! There will be three different ones, on either side. More soon!

Cheers, Phil!
Phil, I think that is a good enough reason to build another! All I can say is that this Eduard PE set is the monkey's proverbials, it really is! You get so much for a small price (Hannants, £10.50), in comparison!

These PE pieces have now been applied, and they really do add somethin' to the kit! I've never seen a more attractive wheel arch in my life, and that's jus' the inside!
You can see from this shot that they can be seen quite easily, and are a worthy addition!

I've made some more progress on the PE! I decided to add the mudguards, I wasn't sure whether to bend 'em slightly, but all the reference pics i've seen, show 'em to be dead straight.
I added Eduards PE footplates at the front of the rear wheel arches, 'cos the moulded in Tamiya ones were horrible, and out of scale. Due to the bend in the plate, and the way they're attached, means they're not as fragile, and are not susceptible to bein' bent!
Also, I made some cuts at different angles on the exhausts, to suggest some 'dinks' and hits, 'cos these are very exposed!
Lastly, I used some 1mm styrene sheet to create a little box shape, for the rear Notek light!

Hey Paul
Maybe your name explains a lot :-) But is there some PE home made or all from a set??
Looks nice so far.
Cheers Roel

I've used the braces from the Eduard set, 'cos the blocks of plastic moulded round the jack are jus that, blocks of plastic!! So, i've cut 'em away! Before I did this though, I made sure of accurately bendin' these pieces of PE, and doin' a good job on 'em! I also had to file in a furrow on the jack plate, 'cos again, this was jus' a block of plastic!

Well, here is the 20mm Flakrohr, by Armorscale! I would have liked to have used Armorscale's MG34 barrel, but it was unobtainable here in my country, so instead of orderin' from abroad, I used one from one of Dragon's Gen2 figure sets. I think it looks on a par, it bein' perforated an' all!
I'm kinda' worried about the fragility of the PE targetin' sight, for the 20mm. I think I may have to lay it down in the closed position, not sure yet!

All exterior details have been applied now, except for the width indicators. I've got some Jordi Rubio ones, which are on order, and should be here on Saturday! The plastic Tamiya ones, are jus' too thick!
The tow cable and spare wheel are left off, and will be painted seperately!
This is ready for primer now, finally!

Gday Paul
I've just arrived on this thread, and although Olive Drab runs thick in my veins, this little build may have agitated the Axis-filled creative jooses...
Love this little feller! Have only used Aber PE (arse [auto-censored] [auto-censored]) but it sure looks that the Eduard set is just as fiddly and bloody comprehensive...
Agreed with the others that the running commentary and the quality pics is what separates this from other SBSs...
Jolly good show what
Cheers
Brad

Thanks for the comments, guys!
I primered the 20mm, this mornin'! This is what I like about primer, it changes the whole aspect of the build, everythin' is on the same level, now! Aluminium, brass and plastic!

Wow really nice clean build wish I had the patience/time/dexterity for that type of work just a thought but the PE belt ammo for the MG 34 looks a bit flat would look a bit better if you could use the ammo belt from a dragon set

Thanks for the heads up on that, Davy! I do indeed have a set, i'm gonna' do the changeover, cheers!
I've finished paintin' the 20mm! I'm afraid the subtleties in the colours I used, are not registered in the photograph, due to the contrast! The whole thing was airbrushed Flat Black, with the MG and 20mm supports highlighted with XF-17 Sea Blue. The magazine and spent shell guard (not sure of the correct name for it) were also highlighted in this colour, too! Usin' GDW's Boltgun Metal, I applied some chipped paint to these two items to show plenty of wear an' tear! They were then spot-filtered usin' Burnt Umber oil paint, to tone down the silver in the paint and suggest a burnished bronze look!
The two barrels were painted usin' a mix of Boltgun Metal and Chaos Black, about a 30/70 ratio respectively.
These GDW colours are superfine, and paint really well!

I agree with Davy, I didn't like the look of the PE ammo belt, either! It looked too flat, so i've changed it over, usin' a set of plastic ones from a Dragon Gen2 figure set! I don't know why I didn't use these in the first place, i'd completely overlooked 'em! [:D]

The ammo belt looks 10x better now with the dragon part on it it's one thing that I think PE falls down on is the ammo belts I dont think it wortks in 1/35 scale at all
