Hi all!

Here some WIP pictures of my SdKfz 222 during the Polish invasion in 1939. It's my entry for the Purple Heart Campaign here on this site.

The model is a half-builded 222 I once got from someone who quit building the Tamiya kit and dumped it at my workbench (I'm the local " garbage can" for failed models arround here).

I found my inspiration on some great and inspiring site withe reference pictures of damaged 222's and other early German armour wrecks: http://odkrywca.pl/pokaz_watek.php?id=88087
Although it's in Polish, the pictures say enough!

I started to build the kit further after I glued it on the diorama surface. This way I knew exactly where I had to cut parts of for instance fenders because of the specific position the vehicle is in.

The impact damage was done by heating the plastic to make a hole, than used some alu foil for "splintered" armourplate look:
It gave this effect:

Somehow, the damage looks too " melted" or "bubled".
So I took a good look on the mentioned site and found this picture:

Than, I took a file and a sawblade and crossed my fingers. I filed away the melted plastic and sawed the hole bigger.

After this I cutted some thin plasticplate in form and glued it in place using the picture as reference. So, finaly, this is how far I came today:

Thanks for looking!
Questions and remarks are welcome!

Gday Paul
Nice recovery on the bonnet! The original looked too 'melted' as you said, and the ref pic is good and you have recreated it well in the end!
What is the reason for it's damage?
Cheers

I'd say that's obviusly direct hit from Polish artillery that caused it to look like that :-)
Nice work with the damage Paul, looks just like in the ref. photo!

Thanks for the comments guys!
Brad, I think Greg is right; I think it's an artillery "wound".

I'm working on the diorama right now.
Try to update with some pictures later this evening.
