Edifice Models is a new British company which is now producing items aimed at the fantasy war gaming market, and while that may not be of interest to you all as AFV Modellers other avenues being looked at will be. Edifice Models are looking at diorama elements and bases, and has also voiced an interest in the scale figure market.
Martin Preston is the man and name behind Edifice Models, he is a skilled sculptor away from the scale model hobby and a selection of that work can be seen at www.martinprestonsculptures.com with a good mix of pieces featured. I spoke to Martin at the Yeovilton model show where he had a selection of fantasy war gaming pieces on show; as I said most of these will not be of interest to members here, but I did see the potential of his work for our area of the hobby. Martin and I had a quick chat about a possible market for his products in the AFV area of the market and the subject of scale figures came up.
As of this time Edifice Models does not have any figures on the market, but after I mentioned that there were gaps in the scale resin figure market for someone producing civilian figures from all periods and modern figures other than US military in 1/35th scale amongst others, Martin was interested and is open to realistic suggestions from modellers.
The following is guide to how Martin sees his product range as it stands at the moment;
I have produced a range of small scenery blocks and items that can be built up into a variety of ancient style buildings. Hence there are pillars, blocks, friezes and pediments that I have bundled together into a series of kits, two based on a Greek style temple and three smaller kits that create a ruined section of Roman style amphitheatre. They work within the 1:35 to 1:72 ranges as scenery. For general release I have cast the pieces in an acrylic bonded plaster making them compliant with toy safety regulations. However, I am able to produce all parts in a lighter resin on request for an adult market. To compliment this there are two styles of paving slabs based around a 1" unit. I have also produced 4 sections of river that can be used as an obstacle on a gaming board or as the basis for a static diorama. They have differently sloped ends so that they can be fitted together to create differing winding rivers. For scale, each section of river has an approximate 15cm width of water. There is a clapper bridge available to span this river.
