Dnepromodel has provided further details and photos of its 1/16 Type 94 TK Japanese light tank kit.
The Type 94 TK (Tonkushu Keninsha) was a tankette used by the Imperial Japanese Army in various conflicts such as the Second Sino-Japanese War, at Nomonhan against the Soviet Union, and in World War II. Its design was based on the British Carden-Loyd Mark VIb tankettes. The hull was of riveted and welded construction, and was powered with a front-mounted engine. It had a crew of two – the driver positioned at the right, and the commander / machine gunner sited at the small, unpowered turret towards the rear of the hull. The initial armament was a Type 91 6.5×50mm machine gun, although in later models it carried a Type 92 7.7 mm machine gun. Total production was 823 units.

Dnepromodel's Type 94 TK Japanese Light Tank Early Version (#1605) contains the following:

  • 115 basic resin parts
  • 220 resin single track links
  • 640 rivets and bolts
  • 2 photo etched frets (218x135 mm and 65x46 mm)
Our thanks to Dnepromodel for this update.

But who's counting... [/quote] I'm assuming they molded the rivets separately to get better definition and avoid air bubbles that would invariably ruin some of the rivet heads. Good thing is they've molded the holes and location points so it should be easy. Although I still have Ted Dyer's 1/16 Type 94 from 15 years ago and he managed to perfectly cast it with the rivets in place... Jon

Yes a very interesting Kit, I like the 1/16 size, the tracks very detailed, but its definitely a tweezer kit, not that theres anything wrong with that.

You're exactly right! I have been wanting one in 1/35th (to go with my other Japanese armor) but the price of the kit... I also build 1/16 and in RC so this should look great on a M4A2 Sherman. Jeff

Peculiar choice for a subject but I am glad to see it.

Has anyone seen any on-line build threads using a Dnepromodel kit? I was curious as to the quality and any issues one might expect with their product(s). The photos are great but a modelers opinion is even better. I've been in contact with them and I may order me up an early Christmas present here soon. Jeff

I ordered this kit two months ago without seeing the contents and I am still waiting. When I complained to Evilbay it finally got it mail out. It is stuck somewhere in Kiev as of last week. Communication with the seller has been excellent and he has been trying to make it right but..... Maybe someday I will get the kit and review it. I would say this is for experienced builders only, notice that the main machine gun is in photoetch. Too much photoetch for my taste.

Bummer about your experience... especially with eBay and all. I am going to order straight from their website, so I hope I don't have any problems as you have had. I have surfed (with as much time I have) google and yahoo for built threads of any kit of theirs, just to see what feedback I can get on their QC. I only know of a few companies where there is no issues with the resin so hope I am lucky. Hope your item shows up Johnathan. Jeff
