I seem to recall that Revell Germany offered a really cool 1/24th split-window Samba bus model some time back that I eyed for awhile. And no, they were never in North Africa during WW2 either.

so, should the 82E have the same tires as the kubelwagen? Thanks, Dan (thanks for the info)

I spent a lot of time inside a 1960 Bug, with the cloth roll back sun roof. Big oval back window, the last splits were in 1953. My Dad made it into a dune runner in the '70's using a mail order do it yourself tube kit. It now belongs to my 8 year old Great Niece. My Dad gave it too her when she asked for it, aged 5! It needs a lot of work.

Revell did release a Camper Vanagon a while back, but to my knowledge no one has done any air-cooled campers. Hasegawa do a 23-window, a panel and a singlecab; wish they would expand that line. I personally have a hard time finding my particular year transporter. You can find plenty of diecast 60's vehicles, and quite a few of the '72-'79 buses, but I had a 1969 7-seater deluxe and no one makes anything close. I would so love to have one I could build as my old bus.[/quote] Mom and Dad had a 1966 bus, we went everywhere in it, all over Arizona in the late 1960's. A turtle could pass us going up hill! It was powder blue. There were eight of us in there, and all our junk. It's a miracle we got anywhere. Dad sold it around 1972.

Beautiful car ! Why is it called type 82 ? This designation isn't for the kubelwagen ?
OCT 02, 2018 - 03:16 PM
The Type 82 is the Kubelwagen; the Type 82E is basically a Beetle body on top of a Kubelwagen chassis. This gives it a higher ride height and better gearing for off-road use. The standard Beetles used a swing-axle system in the rear and not reduction boxes as in the Kubelwagen.

Can anyone recommend a good book about the VW family from this time frame? Dan
