On to the Front! in 1/72 Scale

CONSTRUCTION

In my layout, I wanted to show as much detail in the city to compliment the simple scene. The first thing I planned is how to make it interesting. I wanted to make a dio with all the elements I wanted to try like water, ruins and buildings. I wanted to give the dio depth that’s why I made the scene into a city block fronting a river instead of doing just the façade of the buildings, the street and the river. I started carving sheets of styro for my buildings using my x-acto knife and using pieces of sticks of different sizes for the interior details. Everything in the dio is hand painted using acrylic paints. I hand-painted the kits with Gunze and Tamiya paints. I made the measurements by comparing the size of the figures in relation with the door height in my 1:35 scale ruins, and applied this proportion in my 1:72 scale dio. For the water, I used parafin wax which is available in clear, and tinted the surface with acrylic colors when it hardened. After everything was laid out, I scattered the debris and dirt using garden soil and crushed plant pots, and chunks of styro for bigger section debris. Then I spray-painted everything with matte clear to hold everything in place. When dry, I then glued the kits and figures to their final places.
