1⁄1The BR52 Locomotive - A short WalkRound

In General
Apart from it's aviation content, the Deutsches Technikmuseum Berlin is not, at first glance, a great source of inspiration for the military modeler. However, due to the revived interest in railroads as a modelling subject, anyone with even the vaguest interest in the possibilities should put this museum high on the 'list' to visit. The Railway section
This is divided between two buildings (part of a former locomotive depot) and sub-divided into historical periods. I chose to concentrate on the BR52 as, at least at the moment, it's the only German locomotive in (plastic) kit form. On either side of the BR52 is another heavier (steam) locomotive of similar style/period and the diesel-electric locomotive of the same period.State of Preservation:
Unfortunately, the locomotive is in desperate need of a good clean-up. There is a fair amount of corrosion (indicating that it had been housed outside) although from a layman's viewpoint, it looks as if all the essential bits are in place...Access
As the locomotive is housed indoors and there are a LOT of other exhibits, it isn't the easiest subject in the world to photograph. The low-lighting within the exhibition area also required the use of flash (hence the graininess of some of the images). The Museum:
If you're lucky enough to visit Berlin, the museum can be found at Trebbiner Str. 9, 10963 Berlin-Kreuzberg. The nearest underground (U-Bahn) station is Trebbiner Str. Cost of admission is a very reasonable €4.50.On-Line

Nice! It looks to me that this is the first surviving BR52 engine in original state. There seam to be no post war modifications. Unfortunately there is no pic of the stove. Is it the cylindric style or does it have a quare housing?
I think this will be the cause for my next trip to the capitel.
Happy modeling
Harald

As far as the condition goes ... it may look worn and neglected ... but just perfect images for what I want for my BR52. Love the corroded red colour on the front and back. Have been a little doubtful of what colours to use ... red/black, dark grey or camo, but now Im definately decided.
Thanks for the images Jim. These are gold!
