1/6th scale M26 Pershing

Back in 2007 I acquired a partially started hull of a 1/6th scale M26 Pershing tank. The tank was started by a fellow 1/6th scale vehicle builder (and owner of Plastic Panzers http://www.plasticpanzers.8k.com/ ) Tim Loeb back in 2002. The tank was first started as a commission build, but the project never proceeded past the lower hull. The model has been sitting in this condition ever since.

The project was started with nothing else besides the lower hull. Everything on this model from the hull up was going to be scratch built. The hull that I started on was construction out 1/8th inch thick styrene. A wooden block frame and sheet styrene bulkheads were constructed on the hull’s interior to reinforce the tank’s structure. For the tank’s suspension the tank had several steel angle straps that were bolted into the wooden frame. The original intent for these was for the tank to have dowel rods run under the tank’s hull which would connect to the tank’s wheels. The tank’s hull also had the side fenders built into the structure.

For reference I used the Squadron/Signal M26 Walk around, Squadron/Signal M26 in action books. For further reference I used the Tamiya 1/16th scale full option kit, and the old DML M26A1 (kit no.6801) kit. In addition I used numerous images of M26’s that I found while digging up references on the internet.
