Irish Model Soldier Society 2012

The venue is essentially a long building split into two main areas- a large room for vendors and a larger one for the competition. These are divided by a small reception area. The vendor room this year was more full than I have ever seen it before with more vendors than ever before, with some stands packed literally from floor to ceiling! There’s always a great opportunity at the show to grab a bargain.

Re-enactors make good use of the ornate garden outside the venue to show off various military uniforms and equipment from ancient Rome, the Middle Ages, the American Civil War, World War One, World War Two and Vietnam through to the modern day. A lecture on a military subject is usually held on the second day, this year presented by well known author and society member, Hilary Doyle, on German World War Two armor.

Prior to the award ceremony on the second day of the show, a raffle is usually held and this year a great many prizes were donated by quite a number of different companies, shops and vendors (all of a military or modelling nature). To my eye the crowds on both days across both rooms of the show were slightly busier than I’d ever seen before and as for the calibre of work that was presented- well it simply gets better each and every year, without doubt.
