Irish Model Soldier Society 2012

The venue is essentially a long building split into two main areas- a large room for vendors and a larger one for the competition. These are divided by a small reception area. The vendor room this year was more full than I have ever seen it before with more vendors than ever before, with some stands packed literally from floor to ceiling! There’s always a great opportunity at the show to grab a bargain.

Re-enactors make good use of the ornate garden outside the venue to show off various military uniforms and equipment from ancient Rome, the Middle Ages, the American Civil War, World War One, World War Two and Vietnam through to the modern day. A lecture on a military subject is usually held on the second day, this year presented by well known author and society member, Hilary Doyle, on German World War Two armor.

Prior to the award ceremony on the second day of the show, a raffle is usually held and this year a great many prizes were donated by quite a number of different companies, shops and vendors (all of a military or modelling nature). To my eye the crowds on both days across both rooms of the show were slightly busier than I’d ever seen before and as for the calibre of work that was presented- well it simply gets better each and every year, without doubt.

All that remains to be said is to enjoy the pictures from the show and if you can, why not give the show a visit next year! Visit the IMSS website for more information.

Many thanks to Pat McGrath for very kindly providing a good majority of the pictures for this show report. Also thanks to the IMSS for staging such a great show!

I think he did outstanding job because he recreated the spirit of old Soviet posters. Never seen anything like that.

Howdy guys, Colin Glennon is the name of the builder. Like Pat said he won the IMSS President's award as well as C4 Open's Subjective Award. C4 Open (stands free from IPMS) is an annual show held here in Malmo, Sweden (see Romans/Bizarre's show report from 2011 here ) and we have a tradition to hand out an award to something that we (in this case just me) like. . On IMSS 2012 the choise was easy! Nice to see your photos Karl, it sure were a great show! Lots of good entries and a bunch of great people. Recommended for anyone who have the chance to spend a weekend in May in Dublin! Good to shake your hand too Karl, and get a face on another armorama profile. Hopefully I'll see you there next year again and have some more time to chat then. (a few more photos here for those interested) Another one by Colin: Cheers, /E

Thanks for the great photos Karl. Went to the show for the first time this year and thoroughly enjoyed it. The IMSS are a very sociable bunch and we were made very welcome and Dublin is always good for a night out!

Erik- hows things? It was good to see you there aswell, and as you said its nice to put a face to the online profile! Romain- You should definetly consider coming along next year, hopefully the venue for next year will be announced soon- it won't be the usual place (The Coach House) due to something already being booked over the weekend the show is to be staged. Whenever it is announced it'll be on the IMSS website, www.imss.moonfruit.com.

Yes, it'll probably be around the same time as this year. If I hear anything more about the dates/venue for next year I'll be sure to post it up here.

Yes, the Soviet Constructivist style stuff is stunning! Just to add, very nice quality photos, not easy to do, and I like the fact that you got low angles on many of them, rather than the more normal easy "aerial" views. Those busts though... I know this is probably just me, but I just can't appreciate them, those heads and shoulders on their little posts.
