The Irish Model Soldier Society’s annual show is most commonly held in mid-May and is the showcase for both society members and non-members alike. This year (and for many previous years) the show was staged in the picturesque surroundings of Dublin Castle in the heart of Dublin, more specifically in the Coach House venue which opens on to a beautiful circular lawn that is perfect for the various enactment groups who are usually present and if the weather is good, the location is a real sun-trap.
The annual show is one of the largest in Ireland and attracts modellers country-wide as well as roping in modellers from Europe and even further afield. This year the show took place over the 12th and 13th of May.
Modellers can compete in any of 17 categories/classes including ‘An Corsantir’ (The Irish Soldier in National Service), the Celtic Cup (Irish Soldier in Foreign Service), the Connoisseur Cup (54mm Figures), The Vignette Trophy, The Firbolg Cup (Groups and Dioramas), The Da Vinci AFV Trophy and The Aviation Trophy among others.
Prizes for each category/class comprise ‘Commended’, ‘Highly Commended’, Bronze, Silver and Gold. There are also several awards given in conjunction with foreign modelling clubs including from Malmo and the USA, the Presidents Cup (the IMSS President’s personal choice) Best of Show award. This year there was also an award presented by the Irish Air Corps to commemorate their 90th Anniversary.

I think he did outstanding job because he recreated the spirit of old Soviet posters. Never seen anything like that.

Howdy guys,
Colin Glennon is the name of the builder. Like Pat said he won the IMSS President's award as well as C4 Open's Subjective Award. C4 Open (stands free from IPMS) is an annual show held here in Malmo, Sweden (see Romans/Bizarre's show report from 2011
here ) and we have a tradition to hand out an award to something that we (in this case just me) like. . On IMSS 2012 the choise was easy!
Nice to see your photos Karl, it sure were a great show! Lots of good entries and a bunch of great people. Recommended for anyone who have the chance to spend a weekend in May in Dublin! Good to shake your hand too Karl, and get a face on another armorama profile. Hopefully I'll see you there next year again and have some more time to chat then.
(a few more photos here for those interested)

Thanks for the great photos Karl.
Went to the show for the first time this year and thoroughly enjoyed it. The IMSS are a very sociable bunch and we were made very welcome and Dublin is always good for a night out!

Erik- hows things? It was good to see you there aswell, and as you said its nice to put a face to the online profile!
Romain- You should definetly consider coming along next year, hopefully the venue for next year will be announced soon- it won't be the usual place (The Coach House) due to something already being booked over the weekend the show is to be staged. Whenever it is announced it'll be on the IMSS website,
www.imss.moonfruit.com.

Yes, it'll probably be around the same time as this year. If I hear anything more about the dates/venue for next year I'll be sure to post it up here.

Yes, the Soviet Constructivist style stuff is stunning!
Just to add, very nice quality photos, not easy to do, and I like the fact that you got low angles on many of them, rather than the more normal easy "aerial" views.
Those busts though... I know this is probably just me, but I just can't appreciate them, those heads and shoulders on their little posts.
