1⁄35Rammtiger

My 1/35th scale Rammtiger was made using the chassis from a Dragon Models 1/35th scale Tiger (P) with an Airmodel 1/35th scale conversion set. I first saw the Rammtiger on the Achtungpanzer website, and found one of the rare Airmodel conversion kits on eBay. The Airmodel superstructure was fairly bland and void of any real detail. I scoured every other kit in my stash (almost all of which are Dragon Model kits, so there are always extra pieces) for parts to add some extra levels of realism to this vehicle. Since this vehicle only ever existed on paper, I was free to build this monster as I saw fit.
I did try to stay within reason as close to typical German tank design, providing an armored headlight, rails to reach the hatches, and an antenna base from a Stug III kit. When it came to painting, I wanted to make the front end look like it had been extensively used. The first coat of paint was a steel, followed by the red oxide primer seen on German AFV's. The Dunkelgelb came next with a few bands of green camouflage. I chipped the front end using the hairspray method, and various pigments provided the dirty/rubble dusted appearance. I loved building this model! I always enjoy a kit right from the box, but this was my first attempt at something outside the box and I loved the bit of creative latitude that came with it. Hope you enjoy the work!
