Sturmgeschütz III Ausf.B

  • move
This Sturmgeschütz III Ausf.B is the Tamiya 1/35th scale kit and does not utilise any after-market products, as the version used came with a turned metal barrel and photo etched grill covers. This model represents a vehicle that fought in 1941 in Poland. The red skull indicates that the vehicle belongs to the 2nd Kompanie, 192nd Assault Gun Battalion.

Orkun, That looks really great. I just finished the same kit and it looks nowhere as good as your. Wonderful job!

I have to side with AFVFan on this; plenty of room for exceptions to the rule (I'll bet they came from the factory white). Besides, I think they provide some nice visual interest--I'm as much about the asthetics of the hobby as achieving perfect technical accuracy. I like them the way they are, Orkun!

Mark: AFVFan is correct. A few photos crop up here and there of a ivory German hatch interior. IIRC, early and pre-war. To say these anomalies point to their coming from the factory that way goes against the bulk of evidence and common sense, no? I'm for visual interest as much as the next guy. Something that the First Sergeant would have put his boot into someone's rear end for leaving unfixed? No thanks. But that's my aesthetic. What you see as visually interesting I consider akin to scratching a chalkboard! LOL

It is a nice model. I like the dirt effects on the lower front. My advice would be to dry brush the raised the details. I am not sure your personal history with building models, but i think that is one of the most important parts of the finishing process.

Very nicely done, but those hatch interiors just seem TOO white and give too much contrast. While not re-doing them in panzer gray, perhaps a somewhat lighter shade than the exterior. One other thing (which I may be wrong about), but I count six open hatches, and only two have any interior detail. Shouldn't there be some grab handles, locking mechanisms, etc. Especially the two large hatches facing to the rear, They'd be hard to close in a hurry.

@Petro this was my second AFV. On my next, I will do highlighting.

@obg153 I have researched some real photos but i couldn't find any about hatch handles so didn't add any.

How did you get the decals to settle? I tried using the ol' solvaset and the decals just shriviled up. Never had the problem before. The new Tamiya decals seem to be thinner than before.

@rowdycat I have used Mr. Mark Setter when its dry I sanded decals for damaged look.
