Abandoned

The tracks are from Model Kasten. The open side storage box is scratched from Evergreen plastic card. The tarp hanging out of the damaged side storage box is formed from Kleenex dipped in glue, then painted/dry brushed. The broken utility pole is fabricated from a chopstick, with thread simulating the fallen wires. To add some visual interest, the hatches have been slightly propped open, (since there is no interior), with the intent being to show a vehicle that has been abandoned and lost in combat.
The dio base is layered one-inch pink construction Styrofoam, shaped to depict an old road and embankment. The road is formed from sheet rock mud imbedded with fine dirt. The road is painted/highlighted with several shades of brown and dust. To simulate weight, the KV’s treads were pushed into the still wet sheet rock mud and then allowed to dry. Scenery items are various model railroad scenic items.
The entire model is painted using air brushed Model Master acrylics, with a preshade base coat and various highlights to break up the monotone green. The blast-damaged area was painted using MM Russian Armor Green, Rail Brown, Rust, and a mix of silver and roof brown to paint the damaged area. Weathering with multiple pin washes and the Rustall rust system complete the model. The Russian logo on the turret side is hand painted.
The “pointing” German trooper is from Lincoln County Line. The other is a Warrior offering. Both these companies produce very fine resin figures. The flesh on these two was accomplished with oils, with the balance of the figures painted with acrylics.
This was a fun little scene to model. I hope you enjoy viewing it, and appreciate your interest. Steve
