Accurizing the DML USMC M1A1HC

The painting

I sprayed a base coat of Tamiya XF60 Dark Yellow with a preshading of XF64 Red Brown. This done, I sprayed the final color i.e. a mix of XF60 and XF57 Buff paying attention to not fully covering the base coat. A coat of acrylic gloss varnish was sprayed prior the decals application, then another coat of acrylic mat varnish. I started the weathering with a wash of extremely diluted XF60 on the various areas and I insisted on the tracks. This works like real rain by pouring down to lower spots where it sets dry. I finished with various pigment powders in Ochre Yellow and Sienna Earth.

Conclusion

This was a long-lasting project due to the initial quest for valuable data and the extra work I intended to have the more faithful representation of this particular M1A1, “Sinister Minister” as possible. I had a lot of fun building this kit and can now start my M1A2 building.
