With construction out of the way, it was time to add a bit of color. I decided to go with Vallejo primer and paints on this one. The primer, when sprayed on and allowed to cure for 24 hours, is hard as nail and makes for a great base. Since there is suggested coloring located in the instructions, it was back to the .net to find something I liked. The olive green seen on many of these AEV’s was in my sights. I used Vallejo’s Olive Drab Primer as the base and then moved onto their Model Air Panzer Green. This is an excellent color for any stage of this vehicle’s life if you ask me. I wanted to fade the paint slightly, so I used and Olive Drab and finished things off with a misting of Antique White mixed in to take the edge off.
The tracks were painted with a combination of Desert Sand, Pale Green and USN Blue Grey for the pads. After all of the painting was done, the decals were ready to install. There are two different sets of identification numbers that can be used, both from German service. A quick clear coat, I set the decals, clear coated again and moved on to the weathering stages of the project.
I did not want to go too crazy with the weathering on this one. Although these things get beat on pretty good I wanted to let the detailing stand out a bit. So some light chipping with a sponge with some German Camo Black Brown Model Color from Vallejo I used a yellow wash for green vehicles from, again Vallejo and their Model Wash line and used it as a filter. After that is was onto some light dusting with some pigments and it was time to put this one to bed!
