Triage at Aachen - 1945

Windows used in this scene come from the amazing and varied Grandt Line series. While the actual scale of these styrene pieces is intended for 1:24th and 1:48th scale, they serve well when broken into shattered proportions. The wall lamp is supplied with the Custom Dioramics kit. Barrels come from the Verlinden Value Series (24 resin barrels for $9.95 IS a value!). To reflect dents and dings in the metal canisters, a rotary tool was used to flatten out some areas of the drums before painting.

A nice decorative carpet can be found in the upper floor of the business building (Photo 7) , compliments of a home furnishing catalog ad for a variety of rugs/ Simply cut out an appropriate sized rug, soak it in water to soften the catalog glossy paper, then attach it to a piece of paper towel that has been soaked in diluted white glue. Very convincing – and best of all, FREE!

The most difficult of this diorama was “finishing out” the unfinished interior walls of the plaster diorama. To provide a full “360-Experience” required about 20 hours of filing, gluing, and scratch building. This diorama was sold for $650 to a private collector, and is on display the Hewlett Packard Regional offices in Dallas, Texas.

Sharing "tips" is what this is all about, right? The rugs work best if you "back" them with some cheese cloth, gause, or very fine/thin felt. it gives them more depth and adds to the texture. Just go easy on the weathering, as it can eat right through the ink on the printed paper. As for the bricks, do a search on this site for "Digital Diamonds" and you will see how I cast my own bricks by the hundreds! - Keith

Keith (all), Please note you can access the Digital Diamonds very easily (in English) if you just click the "Features/Sections" main link on the left. It's listed there under Special Sections. Cheers, Jim
