This is the Panzer 4 Auf H from Tamiya, Built out of the box except for a Verlinden interior up date set. As it happens the update set cost more than the kit but was a needed addition, as with all Tamiya kits the build was straight forward and soon I was ready to add the update set, designed for the Tamiya kit it fitted nicely, on the transmission I added some extra wire for detail and as this was to be a burned out vehicle I remade the seat out of more wire and added this instead of the kit part.
I was now ready to add damage to the front upper hull and at this point you need to check and check again before cutting as once its off its off. I marked the area to be cut and used a blade and cutters to remove the top front end checking as I went so that a reasonable amount of the inside was visible.
Once done the rest of the vehicle was built and left to sit overnight, painting and weathering was done in the usual way with Tamiya paints, Mig Pigments and washes. The figures are MasterBox and the base an old picture frame enjoy.

Frederick, wow thanks great set of pics have saved most of them for future lol, yea it has to be remembered the effect of a blast in a confined space such as the inside of a tank, all that force with no where to go except out and nothing will get in its way not even armour.
Thanks for the comments appreciate.

I wonder if any after market companies could come up with an engine, extra parts (blasted),debris etc for certain tanks that modelers could use for wreck diorama. I know some of us have stashes but why destroy a good kit (expensive0

David, there are company's out there that do interior sets and engines etc Verlinden to name but one but these are used I think to aid you in your finished item. The rest is all up to you and your imagination.
As for the expensive kits use cheaper ones lol, like you say no point destroying an expensive kit if you can find a cheaper alternative especially if your gonna add an update set of some kind, it's all about the maths.

From what little I've seen of the inside of a destroyed tank, unless a round specifically hit something (transmission, etc.), most damage would be to 'soft' components - wiring, seats, engine hoses. Some metal parts could be torn up but 'heavy' parts like gun breeches seem to survive more or less noticeably intact. Recoil cylinders might be cracked or split. But it appears that you could use an interior set and perhaps leave a part or two off. Scatter random styrene bits around for soft items shredded in the blast.

Belton Cooper, in his book Steel Coffins, wrote that salvagable tanks were often quickly repainted after damaged parts were replaced/repaired, and back into action they went.

Destroyed tanks are often a mass of junk that, if shown as a model without source material, would be laughed at as 'oh yeah, like THAT would happen'. Anyone seen the M4 that had its turret blown off yet the gun is stuck in the open driver's hatch, holding the turret aloft?

Frederick, all good points buddy thanks, with those in mind anything is possible for a destroyed model. Checking plenty of photos is a must cheers Stephen.
