The DML (6362) ‘M21 Mortar Motor Carriage’ kit was built for the 2017 ‘Half a Year for a Half Track’ campaign, during which I did a bit of scratch-building and threw in some additional aftermarket parts. The M21 was then painted with Vallejo Acrylics. There is no weathering to the vehicle at this time, as figure and diorama base completion is pending.

Beautiful work and like Mark I like the lack of heavy weathering. I would limit it when applied to a bit of dust overall rather than heavy mud.

Outstanding work!! The in-progress pics are great, too, since they help show the extra details. Amazing how much it looks like the real one. Thanks for showing this beauty!

After all this time, I expected a layer of dust Mike
Still waiting to see the guy with the chaw finished, but see still looks great as is.
Thanks for the Link MK. Very nicely restored vehicle. Love the pin up on the door interior - nice period type touch.

Great work!! The stowage etc looks dead on the money!! I would like to see a bit of weathering, this things in the field, it at least needs a bit of dust. Keep em coming.

Hi Guys! Thank you for the kind words!
@ Mark, With only one coat of Vallejo (73.608) USA Olive Drab Primer — gotta’ admit, I’m pretty happy with the result. And for my purposes, I won’t be applying additional OD filtering effects. However, I am fully aware of the shiny stowage bits which are long overdue their final dull coat.
@ ivanhoe6, Glad you like that guy! Quite a bit of franken-figuring was needed to cram him into his respective driving position. More GI’s to come. Stay tuned!
@ Steve, Thank’s for keeping my evil heavy-handed weathering twin in check!
@ Michael and Phillip! That half track is a beauty! Wish I could see it in person! So, where were those mortar images when I was struggling to scale those ginormous base hex-nuts? Lol!
@ Frank, The “whoever” you mention would be Michael Koenig; his collection of vintage WWII vehicle images is an ever-growing resource to the forums!
@ Jack, Glad you like them! The WIP photos help me keep my mistakes to a minimum. I take lots of notes as well.
@ Peter, You know me by now! Slow as a molasses delivery from China... well, unless I’m facing a campaign deadline. Lol!
Door pinup?!!! — I have got to add that!
@ Cam, When the time comes, I hope to deliver a realistic weathered look to match the diorama. Please stay tuned!

Brief note: The M21 Half Track, a GPW Jeep, and approx. nine figures are slated for insertion into a forthcoming diorama. At which time, said vehicles and figures will be put into duty where they will lose their factory-fresh appearances. The figures have been franken-fitted to their respective positions and just await my shaky paintbrush. In addition, I’ve been collecting my thoughts and a few materials needed for the diorama base construction.
If you’d like to read along, here are some related threads to pick through:
‘M21 Mortar Motor Carriage (advice needed)’ (Armorama figures forum)
‘Half a Year for a Half Track’ (Armorama campaign)
’Jeeps!’ (Armorama campaign)
Thank’s again for having a look!🍺

Great job Mike. Brings back memories of building the Tamiya kit way back when Adam was a lad.

Hi Steve,
I really appreciate the compliment! Thank you for having a look!
Just knew I had to build one of these half-tracks ever since my youth and my more recent return to the hobby.
Cheers!🍺
