Rick has recently built a pair of very old 'Fort' Zis-5V kits that he had hanging about. Both models, tanker truck and general cargo vehicle, were done in a distressed winter finish. He added a mattress to the hood of each for additional insulation from the harsh Russian winter. The mattresses were made from Kneadatite two part epoxy putty. Both kits were a bit bare in the detail category but went together relatively easily and fit well. The only place Rick needed any putty or the like was with the large fuel tank and the resulting seams.

Thanks Joe and Frank! They were a fun build; gave me a chance to really push the weathering. Joe, the mattresses were made from Kneadatite two part epoxy putty. I think it is the same as Green Stuff, a two part yellow and blue mix. I used a punch and die to make the buttons and added them into indents made with a toothpick. The rest of the mattresses were detailed with an AK Carving and Modeling set but you could use really any kind of metal files or dental type tools. They were a good bit easier to create than I thought. It does add a nice touch for pretty minimal effort.
Cheers,
Rick
