Dum question, so, of course im the one to come up with it.
Aside from the obvious type of projectile size used. Is thier any other difference between the 40mm and the 37mm ??? Are the barrels longer ? I assume that the diameter of the barrel on the 37 would be smaller, but what about everything else ?? Do they share the same chassis ???
Thank you in advance for any help offered.

Mark,
I've spoken to Italeri, they're a bit late but they for sure release the "terrestrial" version of the 40mm Bofors they originally developed for the PT-Boat...
Ciao

There is a substantial difference between the two guns.

The breech is a good starting place, the 40mm was designed to take a "clip" of. IIRC four rounds, top fed into the gun. The 40's mount was greatly different, designed as an AA weapon rather than an AT gun. Even the mount on the M15 halftrack's 37 was quite a bit different from the 40mm.

Just to be sure we're answering the right questions here, do yuo mean the American 37mm (which was a completely different gun) or the European 37mm version of the Bofors (as used by the Germans)?

The european 37mm bofors to be exact. Was hoping to chop up the 40mm when they come out and try to make the 37 hoping their would not be too many modifications.

The 37mm Bofors was an Anti-tank calibre. Are you speaking about an anti-aircraft gun?

No clue about the differences between the 37At and the 40AA Bofors, but soon I should receive the pre-production sprues of the "terrestrial" 40mm from Italeri.
I'll keep you posted as soon as I've got my hands on it.

Thought that might be it.
As far as I know (and I'm no expert, so take with a dose of salt) the German 37mm AA was a license-built version of the Swedish 40mm. There was also another 37mm german gun that was not built on the Bofors design and this had the feed from the side.
I think the Bofors derived guns were pretty similar to the 40mm versions, however I'd be there were a raft of small differences. In addition to the barrel I would expect the recoil springs to be slightly different in either diameter or length. There might be differences in the operation of the firing mechanism plus the carriages were different, I think.
Not much definite help, I know, but hopefully this gives a few places to look for differences in the photos.

Hi Fabio!
Will it be the US or Commonwealth made carriage?
TIA
