Hello guys,

This is the second of my handful of figures for my diorama, a Garand rifleman screening the area.

Oils were used here too :

Hope you enjoy this one. Greetz Guy

Superb finish. I congratulate you on the finish you got on the face, eyes, and 6:00 shadow. Nicely done.

Good work Guy it will complement the General Figure very well.

Good photography too. What did you use for the backgrounds and what type of camera are you using.?

BTW you should enter these guys in the next Figure of the Month Competition over on HF.

Pat and Thomas, Carl, thanks.

The grey background is a painted wall in my living room, the other, the blue, is a simple plastic map. It was an experiment.

My camera is a very cheap digital camera, Hewlett-Packard M425, 5.0mp, 3Xoptical zoom, 6Xdigital zoom.

In fact I'm never satisfied about my pics...

Figure of the month : I think my work is still not good enough to join this competition. I think it would be silly, no ? But you gave me a great compliment, so I will keep it in mind, ok ?

Very nice work, Guy. Very, very nice indeed!

You have definitely got to enter this into HF's FOTM! I think it would be silly not to enter it!

Paint looks GREAT.

The only thing I'd say in terms of constructive criticism is that the canteen is mounted too highly on the belt. WW2 canteens of American design hung by a metal "wire", for lack of a better term, and were usually dangling much lower from the belt, or even from the cartridge pockets themselves. This one is mounted on the belt more like from the M1956 gear, which had slide keepers to keep things in place.

Hope this helps a bit.

Encouraging words, these give me confidence !

Rob, my GI in this topic doesn't have a canteen hanging on his belt. You've seen the lower part of the haversack I think. When I check the pics it looks like there's a canteen, you're right about that, but no...
I appreciate your advice, thank you. Greetz to you all ! Guy

Ooops, my bad. I thought that was the bottom of the canteen, since there is no photo directly of his back. Well, then, he needs a canteen! Haha. Great figure!

Hello Rob again,
The canteen is missing indeed (or it's in his haversack ). No, you are right about that ! And I will give this thursty soldier his canteen, it will also make the figure more complete ! Tomorrow he can drink if he wants to.
Good remark ! Greetz and thanks, Guy

Hey Steve, I like oils so much, it works the best for me, I am a very patient guy and to paint with oils, that is necessary. I especially like the time I have to blend all the tones, shadows etc...I use them very diluted with white spirit, almost transparant (especially the face, hands). The white spirit fastens the drying time. Greetz Guy

Gday Guy
He looks super mate!
Only gripe is that I think he is wearing the M41 Parsons jacket, which is actually a khaki colour (called an 'OD field jacket 'officially though)
This version has the two side entry pockets just visible under his webbing. Your pants are correct colour for the jacket though!
The later M1943 field jacket is the colour you have depicted here, but has four top entry pockets with flaps; two over the chest area, and then two directly below them on the waist. Also the pants would be the same shade of green.
Only a peanut like myself would notice though
Other than this, he is painted exceptionally well, and I think you should enter him or your next one on HF
Cheers

Hello again Brad,
It's an M41 Field Jacket. As a small military collector, I have one in my collection. Here it is :

I used this jacket for reference. I made the colors the same as this one.
I hope I did it well, because I like to keep it historical correct.

Thanks for your kind and supporting words, I appreciate this very much.

Gday Guy
After viewing your photo, who would I be to argue! I guess my observation was based on the majority that I have seen, but to actually have one in your posession trumps me easily
Cheers

Pat : I must have choosen the wrong expression, I just wanted to say that my collection is not that impressive. Also a lot of replica stuff.
And I'm not that small
