Eric, thanks for that link. I had remembered it when I saw it but it got lost in my bookmarks. Some good stuff with ISAF. I have seen some incredible pictures of mostly ISAF HMMWV's roaming remote hills into small villages did you do any of that or were were, as you said only around Kabul? I notice that the MB doesn't have much in the way of anti ED antennas on board, how did you guys deal with that...if thats not classified of course. Any shots of your com system?
The SF version you've shown certainly leaves the gunner out in the air doesn't it? But unlike the US HMMWV's which are heavy and wide, your SF guys choose to move fast and light with access to more of the back roads like we've seen with the SF Toyota's. It is a trade off.
Thanks for look at Norway's contribution to the ISAF.

We kept our eyes open and hoped for the best to happen... IEDs was not a real problem in Kabul in 2003. There was some suicide bombers, but nothing like Iraq. Today a new jamming system is being installed, but I have not seen it yet.

About coms: Every vehicle have at least two Norwegian made digital VHF multi role radios (MRR). They are configured in a lot of different ways, but usually you got the radio in the back of the vehicle and the operators panel mounted on the dash board. Here are some info on the MRR . HF and Tacsat are American made but was not used much during my tour since we operated over short distances.

Yup, but I have only seen this version in the Air Force and as a staff car. In my opinion these will be better for ISAF versions

They are both from the same company as the one Graeme posted.

With all the G wagens in service you'd think some one would have made this kit in styrene or even resin? Were the 50 cal the same as the US ones. With ISAF does it, as an organization, provide logistic support to ALL nations or does each country bring all their kit when they arrive?
I am going to keep my eyes peeled for other SF G wagens, it looks like a nice project.

They look the same, but works differently. Norwegian M2s have been modified to fire from an open bolt to prevent accidental fire due to a hot chamber. Externally they look the same.

During a NATO operation logistics are a national matter. During rotations units who leave usually hands over their heavy equipment to the new unit.

At long last I found the source for the Misfit HMMWV's in Afghanistan. Frenchy found this site full of VAB images and I looked around and there they were. On the same site there a few other Misfit HMMWV's in tan as well.
Slowly slowly indeed, thanks Frenchy.

You're welcome Bill ! Once again "Everything comes to him who waits" but I didn't know I would kill two birds with one stone Pierre Piveteau's website is indeed useful for modern stuff.

I’ve run into following pictures and I thought they could stir some interest within this group:

http://zpravy.idnes.cz/foto.asp?r=zpr_nato&c=A080319_082314_zpr_nato_inc

(You can see slightly bigger pictures when you click on them.)

Those are Humvees leased to the Czech units by the US. The majority (20) is used by the Reconstruction Team in Logar province. Another 6 belongs to Military Police Special Operation Group (SOG) in Hilmand province. The article states they are equipped with Czech weaponry and electronic devices.

Very nice. The third pic, one HMMWV seems to have a loud speaker attached with some kind of roof covering. All Frag 5 armour M1114's.
Perhaps this thread just needed a break, there is a lot of HMMWV activity in Afghanistan lately.
Russell, there a re quite a few Dragon 1/72 but the best all around 1/35 kit is still Tamiya. Lots of AM stuff on the market and just today Blast announced the Rhino in resin for either Stryker or HMMWV.

Interesting image this. It is a M1151 SF HMMWV, first I've seen. The tubular chevron front bumper, odd circular antenna on hood. The turret yet another variation on a theme and the front shield is square instead of rectangular with splines radiating out from the gun port bolted on, very elaborate. Common armour doors, M1114 armoured windshield and an unoccupied weapons mount for a standing crew member in the rear.
Caption for photo reads.
"Marines with a Marine Special Operations Company take aim on Taliban fighters in a Helmand province village in late February. Afghan national army soldiers and the MSOC Marines were visiting the southern Afghanistan village when they were attacked by Taliban fighters."
I was wondering when we'd start seeing the pictures of Marine HMMWV's coming into Afghanistan again. The soldier has a design on his helmet and is wearing non camo green pants.
Thanks to Frenchy and his eagle eyes for finding this.

Bill you sure that is a humvee? Doesn't look like any humvee to me! haha

Anyway, what interests me the most is that after all that armor they have the basic armor doors from M1025s, doors that have almost not ballistic protection. But there is yet another example of a rear mounted weapons mount.

Nice Landy Bill! I have the AA SAS Land Rover in the debarkation zone myself. Other than that it is pretty much like you. Too many projects and not enough time. Since I have served in Afghanistan I have an interest in the vehicles used by ISAF and OEF and some day I will build this one

MB 290 with sand tyres, front and rear machinegun (MG -3), top mounted M2 machinegun, night vision equipment, winch and smoke dischargers. Patroled the outskirts of Kabul with this one in 2003.

When I was there we just called things as we saw them. Could that be the one where the Italian SF and the Greeks were? The Italians built that really nice bar with the brick pizza oven. If so, we called it "the Italian Compound." Inventive, huh?

Yup, that is the one. We lived in the old Russian barracks and did protection for the Loya Jirga down at the university in Kabul.

Just so we don't hijack Bills thread, here are some more pics of one of the vehicles we used.

Now making a turret like that wouldn't be too hard for you, would it? Virtually every HMMWV out there has a turret of some kind on it, a PE one would sure be nice.
