Firstly, i'm NOT being sarcastic here (nope, not even slightly ) but around 18 months ago, it seemed you couldn't go into an Allied Forum (anywhere on the 'net) without falling over another indignant demand for U.S. HalfTracks...
Since then, from DML, we've had an M2, an M4, an M3 on its way, an announcement by Trumpeter on a series of vehicles including the M16.
The AM manufacters and the publishers haven't been letting the grass grow under their feet either. Stowage sets, New decals, replacement wheels, even a mega-PE set which rebuilds the entire kit. We've had reprints of the Workshop Manuals, magazine articles aplenty but there is something missing...
BLOGs, WIP (whatever you want to title them) have been truly remarkable by their absence. So what happened?
Were they bought and added to the list of pending projects?
Did people get cold feet at the last moment and bought another Tiger?
Is there a worlwide conspiracy by the Sisterhood of SWBOs to ban the presence of this most attractive of vehicles in the family home?
In a few words, where are they?

Jim there have been a few blogs over on Planetarmor, (one completed two others in progress) including this one by Rick Lawler using the Lionroar mega PE set.

The thing I'd be curious about is how has the kit done sales-wise??

Ok I'll confess, although I wasn't one of those clamouring for Halftracks. Mine is way down the stash but I am saving up for the Lionroar aftermarket set which replaces almost everything except the wheels

Pat, you can get the LionRoar set for £30 from Lou Stener, about the same cost as the base kit.

I built one M2 and have a couple more in the wings for future projects.
I plan to get an M4 soon and will definitely pick up a few M3s -- lots of conversion potential with the M3s.

Thanks Mark but I got my kit for £20.12 from HLJ including postage
Having gone back to look at the Lionroar set I might skip the Bronco Humber and buy that instead.

I'm personaly waiting for the Trumpeter release, but that's just because I won't to spend little on a halftrack, as their not my main interest. I do agree with seeing little build ups...

I havent got one yet but thats because im always a mile behind everyone else,,, and thats because i know i wont build it right away so i wait until the rush wears off and i can pick one up cheaper,,, i do agree though for as many threads there were about HT's before they came there as been very few build blogs in comparison.

I picked mine up last month.. I waited till my LHS got one in stock, took a while, and they sold quite a few before I grabbed mine.
I will most assuredly enjoy making this model, but it will have to wait a while as I have a couple of other projects started or waiting to be finished..
Also I'm a bit of a Half track fan, I've built 4 in the last few years and have 2 of the old tamiya U.S. kits plus the new dragon one, and 2 of the new dragon 251's and an older dragon 250 waiting in my stash.
lol

I'm building a M2A1 right now. Mostly finished and ready for painting. I've still got another M2/M2A1 and the M4 in the stash.
As for not posting, I'm not up to a level that I feel qualifies for a blog, etc.

Jim,
It is a possibility, though slight , that folks are trying to unload their Tamiya kits BEFORE getting the new ones. I, uh, did......but didn't replace them yet with the Dragon offerings.

We don't live in Harry Potter land...so there's no problem whatsoever in saying that there are blogs over on Military Modelling relating to the M2 and M4 any more than there are problems saying there are a couple up on Planet Armor.

I've got the M2 and M4, (not to mention also the Tamyias' assortment of halftracks) I've been collecting a few aftermarket items, but truthfully have so many other underway projects, I refuse to start anymore until at least 50% of those I'm working on now are finished.

Mine is in que for spring of 2012 I have all that were put on the market, but no where enough time presently to finish them. I will more than likely continue to add to the pile too as the new kits hit the streets. "Q"

I havent bought any from the new halftrack series, because Ive still got the Tamiya M3A2 and M21 for the alt. sides, TWS running gear, Plus model engine, Blast canvass and 2 x stowage sets and Eduard etch and didnt really see the point of adding yet another box to the pile.

Why, when there is a new release posted in the news section, does it invariably degenerates into another Allied vs. Axis peanutgalleryfest?
If a company called Dragon (for the sake of argument ) Chooses to release German vehicles or figures, why do certain individuals keep calling for the same thing. Either:
a) More allied Infantry (whatever that actually means)
b) An M3 Halftrack (whatever it actually means to them)
Frankly, it's getting a little tedious. Every time someone posts a story about a new Axis release it's always the same response from a minority.

What I can´t understand about the whole situation ..
If so many love the US halftracks, and everybody and their dog would buy one, why does nobody build them?If I wanted a model badly enough, I wouldn´t wait for an eternity in the hope that somebody might release it. Id get whats going .... and there is AM available to improve on it .... and build it!
The tamiya kit may be old, but it still makes a decent model! Anybody see the M3 and trailer on ML a few days ago by Jorge Lopez ? Maybe if more US half tracks were built, Dragon and the likes might seriously consider it! Maybe they have some way of monitoring AM sales and see little to no halftrack sales! Why did they release all the Tigers when tamiya had already quite a few respectible kits of it? Because they are being built and seen about on galleries and threads???
If it really was that popular, surely more finished kits would be seen!
It seems to me that people reply to the news features... and for the want of something better to say ... wish for something allied. Its not really an Armorama only issue either.. its just human nature I guess.

Just spent the last hour or so reading the Lion Roar/DML half-track blog on the planetarmor site. Insane doesn't begin to describe that beast. Could hardly believe such a model was possible. How anyone could solder and fold all those teeny weeny parts together. Getting so many parts aligned? Crazy. Inspires me to get my butt in gear and get some work done!
