This is my 2nd diorama ever. I am making it for the Spec-ops campaigne. It depicts a small group of Screaming Eagles walking through a bog after ambushing the motorcycle. First time for many things. I used a mix of Future floor sealer, brown acrylic paint, and dry dirt for the mud. I did about four coats to make it thick then placed the motorcycle and plants. Then did another 3 or 4 coats. After they dried I placed a thick coat of Future and mixed the WS resin water with brown acrylic paint to muck it up. While the resin was setting I placed the German rider and did some prelim blood and gore effects. They neeeeed work still; the blood came out way to florecent (I am going off a past experience I had that was unpleasant). Here it is!

I am placing the troopers Monday when I get home from a trip. The base will also be put onto a squarish clock mount that will make it look pretty cool I think. Keep in mind it is still a WIP so don't be too cruel.

Thanks for looking!
-Mike

Mike, I think your mud bog turned out really, really well. The only thing I might suggest is the inside of the side car, top of the motorcycle and the wasted soldier could use some mud splatters on them. Particularly the soldier's boots.....those babies would be covered in goop considering how muddy your scene is.

The color of the blood would be consistant with him being shot right now, but the run off would indicate about a couple minutes or more ago. I think this dio looks good.

and true, there would be more mud on his legs and more.

Really nice idea you have there, my only negative comment is the pose of the dead soldier. I suspect this will be the hardest part to alter at the stage you are at, he appears to have been shot in the front of the head so he would of gone off backwards, the arms would have gone up so in theory would be above his head and legs would be straight or slightly bent (nothing a razor saw and some filler cant fix). Please don’t let this put you off as the groundwork is excellent and this is just my opinion.

Thanks guys! I have adressed the blood and mud issues in the last hour. I will post the finished pics next week.

Darren I agree with you on the pose actually. I did some sawing and filling on the figure already to make him the side-car rider. The other figure proved problematic so I simply ditched it. I posed him as if he was originally slumped over the handle bars and one of the troopers moved flipped him back where he fell. In my mind it kinda works!

Thanks for the quick replies!

Gday Mike
I do like the diversity you have here with the shape of the base and subject matter, but in my humble opinion I would almost entirely remove the blood. I think it tells the same story without it, and as it stands it probably detracts from the overall scene for a viewer, (It is a little overpowering)
As for the coloured posts, what about having the one closest to the bike skittled over? Alludes to the movement of the scene before this final 'still' moment.
So the 101AB are going to be in the muddy side right? Makes sense being the larger part of the diorama.
Looking good mate
Keep it up
Cheers

I won't repeat a lot of the stuff above.

The mud and placement of the cycle are really cool. I'd muddy up the base of the vegitation a bit more.

Can't wait to see more - this is a good one.

Congrats, nicely done. Besides the comments made, blood would be more dull then the mud maybe a little dull coat on the blood alone?
Really like it and since you mentioned fixing some items I would sure like to see what you changed.
Congrats again,
Bob

This looks really good, Mike. The mud looks VERY real. I agreed with you about the blood being too bright at first, but it looks OK in the 3rd pic.

One suggestion -- a bit of splatter. Mud on the fig and bike, and blood on the fig. Take a short stiff-bristled brush, dip it in the appropriate paint, and run your thumb across it, splattering the subject. That'll give you realistic mud splatter as well as some blood which splatters everywhere in head shots.
