Hi,
I was so impressed by the water effects in Jim Wechsler's winning diorama titled "The Hard Way" I had to register and post.

https://armorama.kitmaker.net//features/1568

What did he use to make the translucent water and waves please?

Dioramas and models have come a long way in the past 20 years. It's like I'm starting from scratch again.
Thanks

EDIT: OOPS I searched a little more and found the answers-- Thanks to Wexman for the explanation:
"I made the water using a product called Envirotek Lite. You can find it in art supply stores (in the US, Michaels carries it). It is lightly tinted with Tamiya acrylics. The white water is made from the white top of a kitchen sponge. The sufrace is made up from home silicone caulking (the water soluable kind) and the whole thing is coated in a product called Acrylic Varnish, also available in the art supply store."

Wow. That really is something...
One change I would have made (if I ever had this sort of ability!) would be to have the abandoned Sherman completely encased in the water, even if it meant extending the base to a longer rectangle... Would give a perfect view of the underwater section...

I'm guessing that he likes Shermans! He's got a full battalion there.

Sorry it took me a while to respond. I had to update my info on Kitmaker before I could login again.

Thanks for all of the nice comments on this thread.

As for making water, I am doing a blog over on Track-Link that's specifically showing each step of making water so that might give more info than I can write.

Armororama editors: I hope I didn't offend you by mentioning my blog on another site. No slight to this site which I also like a lot. Just trying to help out a fellow modeler

No problem Jim, useful links are always welcome.

Stunning piece of work, I look forward to read your Blog on how to create such beautiful water. My own attempt at clear water, was not quite the success I hoped...

Cheers

There were a lot of impressive models and dioramas that were photographed during the IPMS Nationals! Always enjoy the shots...one of these days may be able to attend in person!

Cheers!

Drool....

What can I say except that those shermans are amazing, and I can only dream of having have a collection like that some day. I wonder how long it took him to create all of those fantastic works of art.

Hi Jim,

Apologies, Saw the original post and though I had already commented then reading this realised I hadn't. Outstanding piece of work in the dio, whole thing rocks.

Just love you're collection of Shermans, more oustanding work.

Brillient,

Cheers
