I am no expert like some of these guys, but I have the set and am going to use the set split up in several DAK pieces. I plan on switching out a few caps and adding some goggles. I will also be painting the uniforms in a variety of new and worn DAK colors. I have also seen and read about some of the tankers keeping the black caps. Might give them a bit more of a tan LOL. I may switch out a couple of arms for short sleves. Hope this helps.

As I mentioned in the news thread, tankers in NA typically wore the tropical dress. As they considered themselves somewhat elite many DAK tankers retained (against regulation) their black field caps as well as any European badging - such as the death-head lapel badge on the black backing.

The European uniforms differed substantially in cut from the tropical dress.

My honest advice? Forgive me if this sounds brutal or abrupt, but you'd probably be better off buying a DAK tank crew than trying to convert this set...

Hi, Tristar make a great Tropical Panzer Crew set # 35009 http://www.modelrectifier.com/search/product-view.asp?ID=6443 . They also make an excellent Afrika Korps set # 35011 http://www.modelrectifier.com/search/product-view.asp?ID=6444 . The crewmen that come with the Tristar 38(t) h E-F can be converted to a DAK panzer crew with the Afrika field cap and overcoat. Dragon has several sets that can be converted to an African crew. These are all available from MRC or

Hope this helps.

As I understand it the piping colour for your branch of service remained the same no matter what uniform you wore or where you were stationed.

Just remember...the Tristar set costs about $13.00 and the others, Tank, etc. cost three times as much!

Maybe so - but the pose of the Tristar set isn't really good IMHO

I guess it's all a matter of opinion. I have the Tristar set and am very satisfied with the poses. With a little surgery and a LOT less money you could position these figures any way you want. Just my opinion. Although an Afrika panzer crew, these figures aren't designed solely for the PzKfw IV and may not be what Tracklink2 was asking for anyway. I just like the Tristar figures because you get excellent quality for the price.
