As the title says ... Im looking for Russian uniform references from the WW2 era. I have quite a few, Allied and German, but no Russian.
Looking for the usual ... description of uniforms and items used and also colour photographs of similar.
Any tips or links are appreciated. Cheers.

Tjena Anders. Tack så mycket!!
Basic uniform identification, when used, year, season, etc.
Personal gear identification
Colour images of the above.
But of course anything you have along these lines, would be excellent!
Kollade runt lite på nätet tidigare idag, men det finns ingenting. Osprey har mässor av likadant från olika lander men ingen Rysk. Konstigt!!!
Kanske du har några tips om böcker också? Uppskatar allt du kunna skicka!

There is an Osprey Men at Arms book Frank, I think the Title is "The Red Army In the Great Patriotic War"

Thanks again Pat. I must have missed this earlier today.
"The Red Army of the Great Patriotic War 1941–45" (Men-at-Arms 216). Ordered it tonight along with "Soviet Rifleman 1941-45" (Warrior 123). Must drink more coffee!

There is a book out there showing actual color photos from a collection in Russia. I have it some where in storage. May take me a day or so but I will find it and let you know the name of it. I got it in the early 90s so I am not sure if it is still in print or not.

Frank, a good one to get hold of is "Red Army Uniforms of WW2" by Anton Shalito, Ilya Savchenkov & Andrew Mollo, Its a Europa Militaria one. ISBN 1-872004-59-8, Cost me about a tenner off Amazon a couple of years back. Its all colour pics of original kit being modelled in the usual fashion, I found it invaluable when I was doing Russian figures. Hope thats of some help.

Hola Frank,
I'll write in English so all can read
There is acctually quite a bit info online. A super site that I found is:
http://www.collectrussia.com
They have a lot of original items, as well as a super inventory of books regarding Russian uniforms.
Here is a direct link to their russian militaria page:
http://www.collectrussia.com/showsupercat.htm?supercategory=SOVIET%20MILITARIA
As far as what was used and when is kind of a 'non' issue in the Russian army from WWII, if it was available, it was used. The early uniforms and helmets were used through out the war.
When doing online searches try to search the russian names such as 'ushanka' [fur hat], 'Sharovari' [trousers] and 'Telogreika' [padded jacket].
I'll look through what I have, the request is pretty broad, would be much easier if it was a bit more narrow.

I must say a big thank you to you all. I have pretty much all the info I set out to find. Both Osprey books have been ordered, and I won (?) the "Red Army Uniforms of WW2" on Ebay tonight (£21). With these and also the uniform and personal gear from the sites you have suggested, I should have all the info I need.
I also found a few re-enactment sites who have images of uniforms and personal items required to join their groups, as well as weapons. These will also prove to be useful!!

@ Anders - Yeah I know it was a pretty broad request, but starting from nothing, I have quite a bit of reference already andon the way. That CollectRussia site is excellent. Have more exploring to do there. Thanks a million.
@ Chris - cheers mate ... PM has been sent!
