Your post has a typo in the heading. I'm pretty sure you mean "Oh YES, another Abrams".
Your M1 looks good so far. I'm looking forward to see how the dust buildups on the side skirts will look like when finished. Keep us posted.

I am not quite certain...are the front fenders showing bare metal? The Abrams front fenders are made from dark grey or black plastic (fiberglass?). Other than that it is a very nice model. I have always liked the 3-tone scheme and the dust around the demarkation lines is very well done.

Fiberglass? Realy, since when. No pun intended, I've been out for 15 years now.

Yesss! Another Abrams!
The lights above the main gun. Does the wire simply thread through the loaders hatch? This is an interesting detail (not for my current M1 but maybe a future one) . Also does anyone know what they are for exactly?
There must be quite an army of 1/35 M1's out there now.

plastic front fenders, who'd have thought that ... I am trying to find a pic as ref 'cause I am pretty sure they won't bend, but break when under heavy stress. You got a pic of that Rob? I really like the lights John, never theen that detail, too. Any story behind those?

John,
Nice looking M1A1 from Quarter Cav. I like the dust lines as well as the scratched & chipped fenders. Also nice details: the M113 lights and wiring, the CWS, and loader's MG. Great job.
Rob,
The fenders are made of aluminium, not fiberglass. That is why you tend to see them bent up vice shattered. Tanks that have been in service a while will have the paint rubbed off of the upper edges as the crew uses the fenders to slides off as they dismount the tank. I am sure that Gary demonstrated this technique for you...

Looking good. Gotta love all these Abrams. Maybe I will start one of mine (DML M1A1 AIM, DML M1A2 SEP, or a USMC M1A1 HC w/Pearson blade, or an early M1 IP from the Tamiya M1 kit) soon and add to the Abrams frenzy.
As John states above, the front fenders are metal (aluminum). There is a rubber mud flap along the front edge, which John has modeled as missing, hence the line of bolt holes along the leading edges.

Thanks for all your comments , will post more soon .
the lights above the gun i have'nt a clue , i'm just modelling what i see in my references
i went over the top with the fender weathering and will tone it down , but again the references i have of this tank show the paint worn off the fenders , just not as much.
It's supposed to be the tank off the cover of the box , there is also some good pictures of this tank in Model military international number 3
thanks again

hey John, good looking build and great paint job too. This si the same one Im working on right now myself...though, the book Im using doesnt have any pics of the rear. does yours? my question was about the extra stowage bin on the rear. Does it actually have the 02 on it? if so, I need to add that to it.. any chance you could share a photo with me of the rear?

Hi Tim , been watching yours aswell and I think your weathering is exceptional ,
Yes there are numbers on the bin , definately the 02 , looks like another number before it , but I cannot quite make it out so just went with the 02 ( its covered in a heavy layer of dust )
As I said the references I used are from Model military number 3 and would not know how to post them , if allowed to any-how.
I like the way you have done your tracks aswell , looking forward to seeing more
all the best

Well call me lol'd. I looked at the pics from Gary's tank and I stand corrected. I have no idea where I got that idea from, unless it was just because Gary's track was so old and decrepit that I mistook mud or dirt for plastic. Oh, well, that's why I am not what you'd call an expert.

The Alpine figures are great. Good luck with them. Your figure above wouldn't be right for a tanker though. They usually don't wear Kevlar helmets when on the tank, but CVC helmets as the Alpine guys have on.

Those Alpine figures are gorgeous. I am using one myself for my current Abrams dio (albeit with a head from Hornet and a CVC from Dragon). I believe they both come with alternate heads that are wearing the kevlar helmets. They may not usually wear the kevlar but I actually have several pictures of crews wearing them. I can relate to how you feel about figure painting John. I think I painted each figure almost a dozen times (not kidding) before I was relatively satisfied with the results. Course this gave me a lot of practice.

I would not have had a clue about the markings without your help , thanks again Tim
seen your post asking for MLRS info over on ML
have the dragon kit plus eduard frets for it , have to leave it and do something else now because i'd probably have ended up modelling the same vehicle as yourself
many thanks again

Wow, that looks really nice! The Dragon M1's are nice building up, but it is a lot of work painting and weathering them with all the nooks and details(I have one collecting dust for a while 80% done ). I like the MG belts to actually 'connect' the armor boxes realistically and the mirror effects on all the glazings. One question, I've seen a lot of this 'tape' running around various parts of the turrets on Abrams' (outside of the normal corners of the id panels), what the heck is it anyway?

I think I read somewhere that the tape is leftover from training. I believe this is where the MILES training equipment is attached. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me.
