"Back To Old Mother Russia"
Except This Time With a Twist.....
Hear are a few picks of a railroad station I am working on.. It consist of late war and what if German Armour with late war US Armour together disembarking from a freight train on their way back to Old Mother Russia…
I have a lot more work to do.. More figures and ground work to go, and maybe more US Armour

Very interesting and a great idea for a diorama. I really like these "what if" dioramas.

Very interesting take on something that could have happened, had Germany sued for peice with the western allies to take on communisum we could well have seen a situation such as this. There's a lot going on in this scene and the what-if armour is quite realistic for what 'could have been'. Just a word of warning though - be careful about lining up everything with the sides of the base, i'd try and get some angles in there to make it more realistic.
Good work, be great to see this when it's finished.

You've come up with some great what if/prototype vehicles there Fred, the 37mm Wirblewind and the Panzerjagerwagen with a Panther turret are very cleverly thought out, I have to ask about the twin Panzer IV turreted railcar you have lurking at the back of the far train, is it a scratchbuild or a kit/conversion?
Oh and more pics of the extended scene too please.

i was just going to say isn't that what patton wanted to do. And to think what if, it might have prevented the cold war.

Thanks for the info Fred, how did the resin kit go together? and how much did you have to pay for it and also where did you buy it as I've never seen one before.
The scratchbuilt guns look damn good to me, as do the trees, did you scratch those too or are they bought?

The Panzerjaeger-Triebwagen 51 by 5 Star is not that bad.. I got it from R&J Enterprises.. It coat $180.00.. It is hollow cast, except the turrets.. They are solid cast.. I replased them with ones from a couple of Italeri Panzer IV-H's.. I plain on replasing them with ones from a couple of Tamiya Panzer IV H's so I can do the interiors
easer..
The trees are from Canyon Creek Scenics, www.canyoncreekscenics.com
They make all sizes..

Hi Fred
Nice dio, I really like the original thinking behind it. Are the dunkelgelb tanks going to get camo or just be dunkelgelb. Good luck. Nick

All the Panther's are DML's Panther II's wit CMD Panther F turrets with 88mm guns.. The antiaircraft Panther II has Accurate Armour's 5.5cm Flakpanther Turret Krupp.. The track that is all of the Panthers is the late single pin type for the Tiger II's and is from Friulmodel [ALT-37] All of other track is from Friulmodel also.. I put the Waffentrager in the Panzertraggerwagen to see what it looked like.. I took the Waffentrager out and put a Panzer II Aust L [5 cm][Luchs] in the Panzertraggerwagen for now..
Has anyone caught the Gefechtsaufklaerer "Leopard" inbetween the trees??

Thanks for that, I may just try and track one down, thanks for the heads up on the trees too, they look rather good.
One more question, is the Panzertragerwagen a kit too or a scratchbuild/conversion?

Fred, if its 5cm -- would that be the Pz II Ausf M then? Was this a kit conversion? Same question as Mark's on the Panzertraggerwagen.

Yes, I was going to ask you about this when I first saw the thread. Was this a paper panzer, or did it see service post-war? (don't know much after '45). All the best to your work.

hi fred , like i mentioned before it's an awesome dio, with alot of little detail , like the girl against the building, i have used trees from cayon before , whatcha opnion on them? mine were snow covered. Are you going to detail the train engine with more paint. i am working on a dio with 3 tiger1's right now and like you i find that the Friulmodel tracks much better to use and more realistic looking. well you are definetly going to have to keep us posted on your progress. keep up the great work !

What is your question about the Panzertraggerwagen??
The Gefechtsaufklaerer "Leopard" was stated [ in the design stage when it was stoped.. The kit is from New-Connection.. I changed the turret to a modified Panther Schmalturm turret..
The Panzer II Aust L [5 cm][Luchs] was called Pz.Kpfw.II [5 cm]
I have a question for all of you?? How many caught the German Solder taking a dump??

I think we were both asking the origins of the Panzertragerwagen, kit or scratch/conversion?

Ok It is from Ironside Models.. It is made for a Pz Kpfw 38t.. I raised the decking so the wider Luchs would fit..

Let give you a little history on this thing I am building.. I started on back in 2000 with the Train Station building's and base from Custom Dioramics.. If I remember right the base was 24" X 14".. Right off I decided that was going to be to small.. And now it has grown to 5'5" X 30" and I am thinking about adding another 6" to the width and maybe another 10" to the length.. This thing is growing out of house and home.. I want to add one more flat car to freight train.. I have enough cars to do the rest of the Armored Train minus one coal car.. I have a lot more figures to do, US and German..

Even though this is a "what-if", you might want to reconsider the placement of the 3.7cm Flak on the tender of the locomotive. Lots of people have the inclination to put a Flak gun there, either a Flakvierling or a single Flak...but this area is the top of the water tank and wouldn't be able to take the weight of the gun (nevermind have no space for the crew or ammo necessary to operate it) of a 2.0cm Flak 38, nevermind the much heavier 3.7cm gun.
