Hi - I know that I am asking questions to which there are PERFECTLY good answers already posted, but for the life of me there is NO SEARCH mechanism to find posts that have keywords in the subject line...
Am I daft or just missing something? I know after I posted a request for info on a subject, and caveated it with "I know it's out there, but I can't find a way to search" I got many PM from other users who shared my question and quiet frustration.
Any thoughts or solutions?

Have you tried the Google search at the top of each page? I can't speak for others but generally it works well for me.
Personally I'm not phased about asking (or answering) questions that have already been asked - unless it's the same person asking the same thing over and over and over and... Generally someone will remember a previous thread (on this site or another) and provide a link to the thread.
As for those suffering from "quiet frustration"... forgive the rant, those that know me will know that I don't often do this... but come on people, if you have a problem speak up instead of sending little messages around to the wrong people and not solving anything. We're not psychic. This is not a police state, you may have an opinion, and you may voice it. Rant over.

Rudi,
Sorry...I thought I would ask the question since it seemed I was not the only one with the question.
As for being the wrong one to ask, oh well...consider the messenger is killed.

the google at the top hasn't found everything.... I know there's topics with a certain Keyword in the title.... and it doesn't always find it... dunno if it's because of the past server changes or what........................

Mate,
The question is legit and fair and I appreciate the fact that you simply asked it. Apologies for shooting the messenger - the rant was not aimed at you directly.
Cyber-beers on me
Rudi
p.s. looking forward to seeing those Japanese infantrymen.

Rudi,
No worries - still trying to feel my way around since I am new to the forum. I obviously touched on a nerve, so nothing personal.
Thanks for the beers...the party was grand...

Oh man, I just wrote up a rant about not being able to find anything and in the process I found out what I was doing wrong
Turning off Googles Safesearch yielded a lot more results than it did when it was turned on. A search for 'blu tac', with safesearch on, found a total of four links. With safesearch turned off it found six pages. They might not all be useful, but thats still a lot more. Plus, the different spellings (blue tac, blue tack, blu-tac, etc) each found some new posts.

Thanks Jim. That's a good tip I had not thought of with safesearch on. I would guess the term model is probably screwing up some of those results.
As for this question of searching I have replied to a score of topics like this in recent years and the answer is the same. Our database is much too large to offer site searching on this level for the forums. Real search engine servers could do this but they cost like 15 thousand dollars just for the hardware/software so that isn't going to happen. I could solve the search problem of course by removing 70% of our old topics to bring the number down to a more reasonable level... but that wouldn't really help in the long run.
There are currently 67,000 pages of this site indexed on Google. I'm afraid that is going to have to do.
Plus if you can't find a topic regarding your question or interest then why not post one?
Cheers,
Jim
